Does anyone know any companies offering placements either in Edinburgh or offering placements elsewhere but have offices in Edinburgh(or at least Scotland)?
Basically I'm looking for an undergraduate internship with a view to getting a graduate place with that company but ideally I'd rather not move out of Edinburgh. I don't really mind spending 8 weeks or whatever on a placement if there is the opportunity to move back.

Not saying there is anything on the go at the moment with the current economic climate but there is no harm in asking.

You'll find so much is outwith Scotland is unbelievable. London hoovers up so much. I'm applying for graduate jobs just now, but only 1 of my applications will be based in Scotland.

That's what I'm finding. I don't really want to move down to London. I presume there must be lots of jobs in Edinburgh or at least Glasgow but I can't find many.

It depends what you are looking to go into, but there are very few graduate schemes based within Scotland. What are you studying?

They tend to fill up very very fast and the calibre of the person is outstanding but there is no harm in putting yourself forward :agree:

I'm doing Information Systems(which is basically a mixture of IT and management without going in to much detail in either). It's not a very good course because I don't think I'd be qualified for any purely IT jobs but to be honest I'm not that interested in it so I'm not devastated about that but it leaves me unsure about what to do. I'm looking at a variety of jobs across IT, HR, Operations and various other departments but there isn't anything specific I have in mind.

Cheers, I'm still waiting to hear from there. They said they'd get in touch after the closing date, can't remember when that was. I've been rejected from RBS and HSBC at basically the first stage(one of those online tests where you are given 4 statements where you have to say which one most describes you and which one least describes you).
I've started looking at other places based in England but the problem is that I have to restrict myself to places where I get paid because I can't afford to work the summer for nothing and I also have a part time job which I would probably have to give up if I moved away for the summer. Usually this wouldn't be a big deal but it could take a while to get a job when I came back given the current financial climate.
I have a contact at RBS who could may be able to arrange a normal summer placement but I was hoping for something on a graduate scheme.
It's not looking good at the moment. Hopefully something comes up but if not then nevermind. This time next year will be a bit more of a worry though
