Just saw this for the second time at the pictures.

Cracking piece of cinema!

Michael Sheen is excellent as Frost and Frank Langella is cracking as Nixon. So good that by the end you almost actually start to think that's what Nixon looks like! :greengrin

Any opinions here?

Yeah its bloody good, best film I have seen in a long time to be honest, Langella should certainly win that Oscar in my book with an amazing performance :agree:

Thoroughly enjoyable film.

Great to see it from that angle.

The previous film I saw was Slumdog Millionaire so what next for a hat-trick of great films?

Really enjoyed the film, thought Langella was brilliant, wasn't as keen on Michael Sheen for some reason, but I think that might be because there was a trailer for The Damned United on before the film and I kept picturing David Frost as Brian Clough! :greengrin

Seen Slumdog as well and I thought it was brilliant! The other film I went to see recently was Defiance, really, really enjoyed it, maybe because I went in not expecting to like it, but I thought it was excellent!

Gotta be The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.:agree:

I can't gurantee it'll be good but dear God i hope David Fincher keeps up his almost perfect (Damn you to HELL alien 3!!!:grr:) record of quality films.

Can't wait to see it on Friday:thumbsup:

Films are always good at this time of year, before the big studios insult us with their brain-numbing summer blockbusters. Enjoy while you can, it goes downhill rapidly from Spring on. The quality at the start of the year is designed to get us hooked and used to going out, so that they can fill the multiplex screens up with garbage through the summer.

I'm friends with an executive from a major studio who I see regulalry when I go to the States on business, and this is all his perspective on things.

Last year was particularlly awful, Shrek 3, Pirates of the Car 3 and Love Guru were possibly the worst three films ever made and saw the studios take not trying/taking the piss to new levels.

I went to see Doubt with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Meryl Streep last night and thought it was fantastic!

I'm aware how ambiguous that sounds!

Hmmm....I usually find the films at this type of the year are over-emotional and dramatic clap-trap for the most part, as they attempt to win the admiration of the over-critical Academy.

However, there ARE a lot of decent films out just now, which seems to buck the usual "Oscar Season" trend.

My only complaint is that there isn't much genre variety at this time of the year - it's still mostly an overabundance of serious drama's. I went last night, in the mood for something with a wee bit of action - probably a thriller. Our options were Seven Pounds, He's Just Not That Into You, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Doubt, Valkyrie or Slumdog Millionaire.

They're all great films (save for He's Just Not That Into You and Slumdog Millionaire (good, not great)) in their own right, but nothing you can particularly watch without focussing on!

I saw Doubt last week and I agree it's certainly worth seeing! I thought Meryl Streep and Amy Adams were amazing!

Also went to see Bolt today and would recommend it to anyone with kids, I loved it and so did my son!

Completely agree. Went to see the Curious case of Benjamin Button on saturday and thought it was really impressive, but not as great as i had hoped, but hey why moan about the imperfections of a very good film.

It is all getting a bit heavy just now and it's just getting to the stage where i'm actually looking forward to the new Friday the 13th film coming out on Friday so i can just sit down, switch off my brain and enjoy the ride. They've always been guilty pleasures of mine tho i'm ashamed to admit

You have some high standards if you thought it impressive, but not impressive enough. :greengrin

I saw it yesterday and thought that it was a very good film, but a little bit too slow for my tastes. It also goes on for 2h40m which is too long for me and had me checking my watch frequently during the last 40 mins.

I was definitely impressed with the film techniques that showed Brad Pitt as a tiny old/young man. Just amazing what you can create in film these days.
