....as a James Morrison fan.

I thought the first album was great and the offerings off the next album have been excellent so far.

The mans voice is spectacular and he writes all his own tunes. A lot more than can be said for a lot of these acts nowadays.

I've listened to a lot of soul singers...but is James Morrison a real soul singer?

To me he seems effortless.

Is this a rare white soul voice emerging or is there something I'm missing?

Depends what you call soul, most peoples idea of a "soul singer" tend to be black singers like Etta James, James Brown and the like, go back to the sixties when soul and r & b really took off in the UK it was thought no white singer had "soul" which was pash, listen to Janis Joplin or Chris Farlowe these dudes had bucket loads of soul and made great records which at the end of the day is what it's all about. Enjoy your J M albums, labels don't mean a thing.

I'd never thought I'd see the day when so many Hibs fans admitted their love for James Morrison!

I'm also a fan. Saw him supporting Corrine Bailey Ray back in March 2006 when he was virtually unknown and he was miles better than her. Kept tabs on him up until July when he released his first album.
Undiscovered was, well, f***ing brilliant. There wasn't one song I didn't like which is unusual because there's usually one you can't stand on every album.
I was a bit sceptical about his new album at first but its grown on me completely and I now love it nearly as much as the old one.

Highly impressive voice, some great tracks and excellent live. :agree:

Saw him live in November at the Picture House, Lothian Road - superb.

Great stage presence, sang in key the whole set, could have been listening to an album. Even took time out before the gig to chat to fans and have photos taken in the pub next door. Genuinly nice guy.
