I was having a wee read on the Trainspotting wikipedia page and have only just learned that there is a book sequel that came out 6 years ago!

Director Danny Boyle has said he wants to make the film adaptation but wants to wait until the actors have aged visibly as the story is set 9 years later.

Incidentally, Trainspotting (film) was made 12 years ago

I doubt it would be as good as it's prequel, I'd love to be proved wrong though. Could be a spicy story with Begbie obviously wanting Renton's guts for garters.

Porno is a really good book! Got it when it came out a few years ago...

Would be a class sequel IMO

Don't think it will happen tho IIRC McGregor said he wouldn't do it as the script didn't look as good as Trainspotting and that wouldn't do it justice...

I enjoyed reading Porno when it came out. I got the strong feeling that it had been written with making a movie out of it in mind.

How could they film it without the Sighthill flats?

I thought Porno was a rubbish follow up-Welsh was on a downward spiral after the brilliance of Trainspotting and Maribou Stork Nightmares-just my opinion of course:greengrin...

Absolutely Stu. The characterisation was definately based around the actors performances in the film as opposed to the original evocations of the book. Trainspotting was a seminal, original text. Porno was, IMO, merely trite generic pulp.

Thought Porno was better than Trainspotting, which is a totally overrated book in my opinion. Marabou is the best thing Welsh has written and Crime and If You You Liked School are his best since then.

I feel people have to say that they liked Trainspotting as its a so-called hyp book, and pretty zeitgiest, but the truth is its not that good, all episodic and badly structured.

Don't think Porno is written as a film sequel as Renton has a minimal role, and I doubt IW (met him a couple of times on the plane from Belfast/ Dublin to E'burgh, a sharp cookie) would be so daft as not to consider casting implications for Ewan McGregor if he was writing a movie sequel. If there is a sequel, I fancy the script would be very different from the book.

I read somewhere that if it was made into a film they would not use the original cast of trainspotting as they all take care of themselves and no longer look like smack heads :agree:

Pretty pointless making the film then.

Is it not also the case that McGregor and Carlyle can't stick eachother and wouldn't work together?

Wouldn't suprise me, 2 actors that are probably too big for their boots and think they have outgrown each other :agree:

Isn't Porno the book Irvine Welsh dedicated to Franck?

Thought it was a great read.

Never hear of make up and special effects. I'm pretty sure if they can make someone look 20-30 years older in films they can make someone look like a smack head too. Poor excuse if true.

Porno ties the characters in 2 irvine welsh books together in later life trainspotting and glue. For me marabou and glue are the best but haven't read anything new by him since the master chefs for no reason other than not had the time.
The images in my head reading trainspotting were ruined by the film

Danny Boyle promised McGregor the lead in "The Beach"
and then turned round & gave it to Leonardo DiCaprio (for box office $$$$)

- Ewan has repeated he would never work with Boyle again,
quite right sounds right a real double-dealing SouthBanker.

McGregor also thought any follow-up would just detract from Trainspotting
- both points sound right, "you are wise man Obi Wan"

Poor excuse? Have a word. Not everyone wants to work under the CGI model these days :bye:

Thats my understanding.

I enjoyed Porno but any film would find it tough to live up to the film of Trainspotting. Seminal at the time, but the world has moved on.

Marabou is Welsh's best book IMO

As a book, Porno is an embarassment. It reads as some notes for, er, a sequel to Trainspotting. It lacks any of the humanity of the original and at times can best be described as two dimensional.
