Anyone heading to europe shortly? Im off myself soon and was wondering if anyone had any heads-ups for decent exchange rate places? Seems to me like they are all rubbish rates round town. But was hopin someone maybe knew of somewhere decent (even if just a small saving)
cheers

It's a total nightmare. 1.06 euro to the pound today. Will be 1/1 within a couple of days.

Whenever I go abroad I always just withdraw money from ATM's. You get the actual exchange rate rather than getting ripped off by Travelex etc. Some banks charge for this, some don't. If they do charge it's usually a pound or two max so take out enough at one go. Don't withdraw tenners here and tenners there.

Do you guys expect the pound to keep dropping for the next few months.

I'm planning on heading to Tenerife in April and might buy some € in advance before I get boned even more for it.

My mate is in Amsterdam just now and prices were the same as here when it was 1.5 to the pound now it's crazy. €5 for a pint. A fiver! :dizzy:

as long as the interest rates are being kept down then the value of sterling will depreciate as people rush to sell it off. had i not been such a waster when i was doing economics in first year at uni i might be able to explain a bit better as to why - but i cant remember :greengrin

And maybe a lot richer by making money out of currency fluctuations :greengrin

Supply and demand. If people want to buy the £(which is usually caused by high interest rates) then the value of the pound increases. If people wish to sell and the supply market is saturated(due to poor interest rates) then the £ depreciates.

Edit: my tip would be open an account at the nationwide and put your holiday money into it. You can withdraw anywhere in the world for free and get a better exchange rate

through the hazy mist of cheap student union lager, 14 years ago, i have memories about the interest rates being pushed down causing people to want to sell thus the value goes down. i've still no idea how i ever passed that module :greengrin
that would be a spiffing idea, but i dont think it could be done quick enough now. i will certainly bear that in mind for future reference.
