Has anyone been to Amsterdam since the smoking ban?

What is it like now? I've heard there are now partitions but you can't put tobacco in your, er, em coffee anymore.

If so, does anyone know the Greenshouse effect? How have they fitted a partition in their since it's only about 4 foot wide?

That's always been my favourite place :smokin:

You can only smoke in partitioned areas of the coffee shop. A death knell for the smaller ones, which is pretty much what the authorities are after. For the past few years any licences given up have been retained by the council, so the number of shops has been steadily decreasing. The killer IMO was when they stopped selling alcohol last summer.

The last time I went about a year and a half ago and they used to be able to sell both in some places but had to buy at different bars.

Is that gone all together now?

I've been 5 times and was thinking of going for the Scotland game next year but not so sure I want to now:boo hoo:

Nice link.

36 is quite a lot although a lot of the places are empty a fair bit so might make a few places a bit busier. Just hope they aren't closing the greenshouse effect as that's always the first stop, even before the hotel.

I always promise the wife that we will go to the hotel first:greengrin
It never happens. Out of Central station , cross the road to the right a bit then into the first coffee shop like an eager beaver.
5 mins later i'm starting to worry about our bags and passports. 10 mins later i realise that i have no idea where the hotel is.
15 mins later i have to tell the wife not to make another one just now:greengrin

Great place. I love it

Another thing , does anyone else always end up with a 5g bag in the first shop then struggle to finish it before they fly home ?
It always seems like a good idea at the time

The first time I went I stayed at the Hotel Damrak. The next time I went I booked for me and 2 mates. I thought I had booked the same hotel and we turned up and they didn't have a record of the booking. I was pssed off and my 2 mates were shttin themselves as they'd never been before.

We tried the Dam Hotel (the one with the big yellow letters!) as that was next door and that was where I had booked! I've never seen another two more relieved people in my life. I was also relieved as I'd have had to pay for the hotel for the 3 of us on top.

I don't normally buy 5 but my mate and I bought every type we seen in any cafe we went in (only single gs). We couldn't even remember what half the stuff was we had.

My favourite is the manali :greengrin

I was across in September this year. Most cafe's had dishes of herbal mix to use instead of tobacco and I didn't see a partition anywhere.

Was even more lenient at the pubs/clubs. As the night wore on, ash trays were either made or handed out by bar staff. Was at a late club when the police (on bicycles- hilarious) arrived and the door men just kept them busy while the barmen/women swiped the ash trays and everyone tried to look nonchalant. :greengrin
