Perhaps no longer something that is in the forefront of our collective mindset, as one who grew up in the 80s and is aquainted with several poeple who survive with the HIV condition, and knew a few other who have succumbed to AIDS, perhaps it is apposite to take a wee minute to be grateful for what we have.
The HIV based 'banter' emanating from our rivals, I find despicable and highly offensive. And maybe today, some of these noxious reprobates who perpetuate this filthy attitude, will take a long hard look at themselves.
Not everyone with the virus is a 'junkie', a 'queer' or a 'slag' (male or female). These are merely labels anyway and I doubt that there is a young(ish) person who hasnt had unsafe sex and as such has taken the risk.
Be aware, be empathetic and appreciate the fact that you have your health - AIDS is much more than merely an acronym.

Well versed sentiments, sir.
And, at the risk of being accused of hijacking the thread, I would draw one's attention to the fact that ScotPep, which has been at the forefront of the prevention of the spread of HIV through the sex industry, has been forced to withdraw its services because of funding cuts. The irony of the timing of this announcement is not lost.

Interesting that you mention unprotected sex in the young. The highest rise in STDs in recent years has been amongst people of my generation , many of whom are coming out of long term relationships and have not had the same awareness of the need for safe sex as those who followed.

Aye, I threw on the "ish" to make it clear that "young" is subjective. You are of course correct, Our generation are just as ignorant or perhaps just blase (the untouchable syndrome) about it as the novice ****gers.
My main point is that a lot of ill-informed opinion still prevails when HIV and AIDS is as relevant today as it was during the days of saturation publicity in 1984-5.
