I received this email today and as much as I would like to assist, especially as it's coming up to Christmas, my work schedule precludes my involvement.

If you are as touched by this person's plight as I was, please follow the instructions.

Alternatively, please list any other suggestions you may have.

Dear Friend,

I am Mohammed Abacha, the son of the late Gen. Sanni Abacha former Nigeria Military Head of State who died mysteriously as aresult of Cardiac Arrest. Since after my father's death my family is under restriction of movement and that not withstanding, we are being molested, policed and all our Bank Account both here and abroad are being frozen by the Nigeria Civilian Government.

Furthermore, I was arrested and detained by the Government for more interrogation about my father's assets and some vitaldocuments. Following the recent discovery of my father's Bank Account by the Government with Swiss Bank in which the hugesum of US$700 Million and DM450 Million was lodged.

I therefore decided to contact you in confidence that I was able to move out the sum of US$250.5 Million Dollars, which was secretly sealed in two Metal boxes for security reasons. I therefore personally, appeal to you seriously and deligiously for your urgent assistance to move this money into your country where I believe it will be safe since I cannot leave the country due to the restriction of movement imposed on the members of my family by the Government Currently.

Please kindly send me your telephone number, fax number and also your address which I will hand over to my attorney to prepare you on how to claim the funds from the security company. However, arrangements have been put in place to move this money out of the country in a secret vault through a security company, and as soon as you indicate your interest my Lawyer shall send you the Air-Way Bill of the Luggage and other related documents so that you can help to claim the Luggage.

PLEASE BEFORE YOU REPLY THIS MAIL, KINDLY GO THROUGH this WEBSITE FIRST.
Switzerland Bank has also agreed to give back my family some of the money.

i would urge anyone with these sorts of emails to delete them and block the sender.

This isn't the first time I've read this email, and certainly not the first time that I've come across a fraudulent email.

"Please kindly send me your telephone number, fax number and also your address which I will hand over to my attorney to prepare you on how to claim the funds from the security company"

That's the giveaway. No-one in their right mind should give out any information to an unfamiliar email source.

Hope this helps...

Er, I know.

I was joking...

I've got a similar problem trying to get rid of some Nazi gold I found under my floorboards in my flat.

If you've any ideas on how I can get rid of it, then let me know. Failing that then just post me all your credit cards and pin numbers and I'll send you some in the post.

It's not the first time someone's posted a similar thing on this messageboard and been entirely serious.
Surely you can understand where I'm coming from?

Yes, of course I can.

I just distraught that you thought I was as gullible as that! :greengrin

I forgot that irony doesn't really work on a messageboard.

So you'll not be wanting a share of the US$250.5 when I get it then?

It says something for my perception of irony when it seems that for me to recognise it on a messageboard it needs to be accompanied by a wee yellow winking face. :embarrass

And no thanks, chances are there'll be a Nigerian fella who needs it a bit more than I do...

Well I think you should help the poor man - he sounds in a terrible state. If you send me all of your details first then I can pass them on to him for you, I'll be Mr Plums secretary :greengrin

On a more serious note though, I have had a fall out with a company re a cheque I sent them. They wanted my Address and card details on the back of the cheque but I refused as they would then have my name, address, signature, bank account number, sort code and my card number and expiry date! Talk about handing it to them on a plate!

The worry is that many people must pay them this way (school photos). I think I have won the battle but we will see if the goods come first.

It astounds me where these people crawl out the woodwork from.
My husband recently received a letter informing him he had a long lost relative in China with loads of money left to him in a will!

Never had anything like that before, until I joined facebook. Then low and behold I started to get mail from lawyers of recently departed relatives from all over the world.

I usually give them my address - they have it anyway for sending the order - but put down a random card number and expiry date, on the basis that they cannot check it anyway.

I was just about to mention that site. I was on it about 6-9 months ago. It is hilarious. I think there's a forum where people have sent them signs to hold up to prove it's them etc making them look like complete idiots.

This company wouldn't have my addy as it is processed through the school. Didn't think of random numbers - will keep it in mind
