I live in a fairly new house. It has a concrete floor in the bottom level and was built by Wimpey. Someone at my work has suggested this is very poor and will cause me real damp problems etc in the next few years. At the moment there is no problems at all. Does anyone know anything regarding this?

Not a builder but moved to a Wimpey concrete floored property last year and had some building work done and they didn't say it would cause a problem when they were asked.

Inlaw's are in the same position and have stayed in their property for 15+ years with no probs whatsoever.

If your garden is constantly flooded then it may lead to problems but if building concrete floors were that much of a problem would they still be using them?

These days most builders use prestressed concrete joists with concrete block infill and a thin screed of concrete to form floors. The old method was to fill between the foundations and cast concrete directly on top which could lead to dampness problems. The way to check is to look at the outside wall below the floor level - if there are air-brick (bricks with holes :greengrin ) which pass through both skins of the outside wall then you have the new suspended concrete floor.

Concrete floors are fine if they're installed correctly.
If your floor is vented (as above) then great...it's more likely however you've got a ground-bearing concrete slab, which should be laid on top of an impermeable damp proof membrane.
If it wasn't - you'd know by now !
