I was looking at Ryanair the other day and fancying a wee trip out to take in a Werder game.
Is it worth it anyone?

I haven't been for years but used to go there regularly when I was at sea running grain to the Becks brewery. It was always a great trip ashore though and the locals certainly slaughtered the humourless German stereotype. Have fun.

More a Bremerhaven man myself though went up to Bremen a couple of times, pre tanker days. Both excellent runs ashore. Lots of bars with lots of young ladies.:greengrin

I was there a few years back on business. Thankfully, I don't drink Becks, but the locals were all very amused at any British guy trying to by the "cheap rubbish we export to England"
Hakke Becks, on the other hand tastes quite good - we also seemed to have little brandy chasers with every litre ordered.
We then went to the local micro-brewery, and my last recollection was drinking a beer called "hell"
That was a sore meeting the following day.

just a point about the games, you would be unlikely to get in (sold out almost every week) and its nigh on impossible to get a standing ticket as thats a season ticket holders area.

Thought it might be.
My yearly trip to Cottbus it is then, flights to Berlin aren't much more and it's easy enough to get the train out.
Unless I venture to Hoffenheim

There's a bus service goes to Groningen in Holland, really good craic - worth checking out. It's got "everything" that you'd expect in a Dutch city.

Sounds like a good place, was going to take in a Werder Bremen game but there away that weekend so guess the bars and clubs will have to be hit hard. Becks brewery sounds like a good way to spend an afternoon. From what i hear theres a couple of good irish bars , may well get visited. Thanks for the reply guys......

I'm off to Hamburg this wekend, flying to Bremen then an hour on the bus. Thoroughly recomend Hamburg. It's the hedonist capital of Europe. Think Amsterdam without the dope and the English stag nights but with better clubs, pubs and locals.
Love Germany. great cities, great beer and great people. Have fun!!

You'll not find any football there. They play at someone elses stadium whilst their 40,000 seater is being built. it would also make you a terrible person:jamboak:

I know, it was just for effect
I'm booking a holiday to Greece for Easter next week, might chuck some flights to Berlin in February too. Set on an Energie match now!

Make sure you visit the Steintor area of town and a visit to the Snoor is also a must! Keep away from the train station area except if the Freimarkt (huge fair) is taking place.
Lovely little town with open/worldly people. Lived there for nearly 4 years and still try and get back now and then.

Are Cottbus in the bundesliga now? Last time I was over they were in the league below that.
Noticing your location, did you perhaps discover Cottbus from a PL exchange trip?
