A few years ago i came across this documentary called Sweet Misery (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-566922170441334340). It is a documentary about Aspartame and how Aspartame was allowed into our food, even though it had been refused a license in 1978 and before that the license was withdrawn in 1973.

There are 92 side effects, these are the ones i suffered from; tinnitus - ringing or buzzing sound, dizziness, unsteadiness, and pain in one or both eyes. Since giving up Aspartame(which is not easy) i have not had any of these symptoms, a full list of the known side effects can be found here> Aspartame Side Effects (http://www.sweetpoison.com/aspartame-side-effects.html)

Aspartame is to be found in most diet drinks, it can also be found in bottled water and is found in most crisps(not ready salted), plus many other foods.

Sweet Remedy (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6542033966395731096) is the follow-up from Sweet Misery, it talks to men/women of all ages and how Aspartame effected them, particularly children. Doctors do not recognise Aspartame poisoning as very few know about the effects of Aspartame or know what Aspartame is.

On August 1, l985 the FDA's own toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross, told Congress of Searle's studies "has established beyond ANY REASONABLE DOUBT that aspartame is capable of inducing brain tumors in experimental animals and that this predisposition of it is of extremely high significance. ... https://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/world/2008/05/398657.html

I'll click on your links shortly however what you've posted isn't news to me. My friend works for a research company and she told me almost the exact same thing several years ago (iirc there were issues that the USA wouldn't grant a licence for Aspartame :agree:) Anyway all these years on and my friend still has an aspartame free diet.

I wish i knew about this years ago, i have been drinking this stuff for many years. What angers me is that Aspartame was never tested in the UK for safety, yet Stevia (http://www.stevia.net/) which is a natural Artificial Sweetener is banned by the FSA, yet there is no hard evidence to support this ban.

Coke-Cola have been working on a man-made version of Stevia for 10yrs and at a cost of nearly a billion dollars. Read the ingredients of everything you buy, do not buy anything with Artificial Sweetener`s in them and anything that uses MSG, it too is an excitotoxins, you can out in more in this video by Dr. Russel Blaylock. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2141666279271222294

My health visitor told me when my oldest was a toddler (about 12 years ago)to avoid Aspartame. She said it was banned in many other countries and a controlled amount of sugar was much better as it was a natural product. However as you say it is very very difficult to avoid it.

I have been preaching this for years now, but the feeling from a lot of people is if the goverment allow this then it's OK,

I get a anoyed when I see kids with these fruit shoots that are loaded with Aspartame and loads of other crap, no wonder these kids are moody, hyper and most of all fat.

It should be classed as cruelty to kids if their parents allow them to eat crap...

I agree, we just have to look at how many children are suffering from mental health or learning difficulties problems, not to mention the rise in obesity in children. I believe MSG shuts down the gland which tells the body when you are full, i forget the name of the gland.

Dr. Russel Blaylock is a Neurosurgeon(and a Christian) and what he says does scare, i never thought MSG was that bad.

You will find it most of the sugar free stuff. I have known about it but still haven't managed to avoid it. My kids drink cartons of fresh fruit juice most of the time but you cant avoid it totally.

I haven't had time to check out the links on this thread but I think it was America it was banned when my HV spoke to me - she has retired now but was great at her job.

Once upon a time I operated on a diet involving mostly unprocessed foods and no additives. I need to think seriously about going back to it.

I think the only way is to read labels and take the trouble to find out what the various additives are.

Which can lead to people thinking you're nuts....

No Chez, her name escapes me but it will probably jump into my head at some strange point of a day! Her hubby was a doctor.

It is has never been banned in the US since it obtained a license in 1981, every independent test of Aspartame has concluded that Aspartame is dangerous, particularly the brain and that of children/un-born child are most at risk. But, the Food & Drug Administration(FDA)in the US and Food Standards Agency(FSA)in the UK still refuse to ban it, the only test that say Aspartame is safe are those performed on behalf of Government agency`s. http://www.holisticmed.com/aspartame/scf2002-response.htm http://www.wnho.net/letter_on_aspartame_to_uk_food_standards.htm
I see Asda have banned Aspartame from their own brand products, kudos to Asda for doing so, hopefully others will follow. http://www.prlog.org/10070694-uk-supermarket-chain-bans-aspartame-from-own-label-products-japanese-manufacturer-ajinomoto-sues.html

It is shocking that this stuff is still in our food, i have heard some scientists say that in the next 15 to 25yrs they expect many in their 20s and 30s to suffer from MS, Parkinson`s disease and others that are similar, not doubt poisons such as Aspartame will be one of the major causes.

Industry pays for the right expert opinion, and Coca-Cola is one of the biggest commercial operations in the world, with a rather poor record on respecting people's rights. About the same level as the tobacco industry. So neither the FDA nor the FSA are going to face up to them, especially when you think of all the other food and drinks companies that are involved.

Well done, ASDA, btw. But there's also the question of other excitotoxins like MSG (monosodium glutamate) in all its various disguises.

I have a dairy intolerance, high cholestorol and a periodiacally irregular heart-beat. I also like ice-cream. This makes life a tad awkward at times. Last year my wife spotted a cholestorol-free, non-dairy "ice-cream" in Morrisons. She checked the label - no additives, apparently. There was an item "carrageenan" which sounds like seaweed extract. Healthy? We thought so. Now I learn that "carrageenan" is simply an industry-alternative designation for MSG, which is an excitotoxin that is definitely NOT GOOD for my heart-rate.

They're trying to kill me!

Were the guys in the American Food and Drink administration that originally passed Aspatrame not "mysteriously" given places on the board of Coca Cola afterwards... seem to remember reading something about that a few years ago.

To stay away from Aspartame/MSG i cook my own food, i never buy food from Supermarkets/Take-Away`s as it could contain those poisons. It tastes much better than the processed rubbish that you get in supermarkets , plus you learn to cook, at first it can be time consuming doing the prep, but the more you do it, the easier it becomes.

I feel much better from doing so, wish i had done it earlier.

No, Dr. Arthur Hull Hayes was appointed by Regan and defied FDA advisors and approved Aspartame, he left the FDA as he was under fire for accepting corporate gifts. He went on to work for Searle's public-relations firm as senior medical adviser, the makers of Aspartame. http://www.stevia.net/aspartame.htm
