Lets stop animal cruelty (http://www.pigsofgod.org/)

My pal at work wrote to the Tiawanese embassey to petition to stop the brutal killing of Pigs in a ritual called Pigs Of God.

The link to the website contains a video which is quite disturbing....

it shows a pig being fattened up and having it's throat cut.....utterly disgusting...

There's a petition in place to stop this and replace the festival with pigs made up of flowers...

Please sign to eradicate this sickening thing continuing :agree:

I was at a Moby / David Bowie concert some years back and I accidentally stumbled upon a PETA stall. I didn't know what it was at the time, I just saw a crowd so stuck my nose in. Just in time to see a pig being strung up on a hook and then being essentially disembowled alive. Not a nice image and, in my opinion, completely out of place at a MUSIC concert. I know that Moby is a weird guy and perhaps I should have expected that but out of order IMO....

....even though I happen to agree with the statement being made.

For us to eat meat, animals must die. If god did not want us to eat meat he would not have invented cows and pigs and sheep and all these other little animals. What I don't understand is why he made most animals vegetarian. Maybe as a way of making us eat more veggies?

If God did not want us to eat animals he would not have made them out of tasty juicy succulent meat

that much is true but I don't think that humans use the most humane methods possible, at least not all the time. Probably because it's not cost effective to "give a *****". I have no doubt that when an animal is hunted and eventually captured by another animal, like a lion, that it's a very stressful experience but at least the lion does what it can to end the life quickly. I'm sure that's more out of safety than compassion though. :)

My understanding of the throat cutting exercise is that it's easier to cut the animal when it's alive and let it's own dying heart perform the task of pumping the blood out.

If they didn't taste so damn good I would be a veggie by now. As it stands, I'm just a hypocrite. ;)

Don't worry about it, there's a lot of us out there.

This thread got me thinking so I thought I would wind up some of my supervisors at this morning's meeting. Asked them if animals go to heaven when they die. Then explained the reasoning that we must have animals in heaven otherwise we would not have all the tables groaning with prime ribs etc. So then I moved them on to that muredr must be OK with God then as we murder the animals to eat them. Was fun. Last I saw, they were walking back to the bus to get taken to their various areas screaming and shouting and arguing at each other :greengrin Think I will move on to adultery tomorrow :greengrin
