Has anyone ever had a warning letter from their Internet Service Provider for downloading stuff?

I haven't, but i don't download as much as i used to. I only do a certain US TV show now and again and the odd single from torrents, but i mainly use ITunes now and pay for them - god i hate being honest :greengrin
I think there are three stages to it though. I'm sure i read that you get a warning first and then a temporary ban and then you'll be black listed and not given a connection from them.
I would say that this would only be in extreme circumstances though, where someone is downloading say hundreds of songs per day/week, not for joe average who downloads a wee track here or there.
You been misbehaving Mr. Radge?

I was expecting one, but nothing as of yet I download quite a lot overnight from torrents and rapidshare mostly. The ISP account is not in my name ..... so not my problem :greengrin

No, not at all. I have a new PC and I don't have any P2P software on it.
I was just thinking, that's all...

You wont get banned or disconnected from your ISP if you receive a letter.
Its only a letter after all. No information goes out to the Music Industry.
What happens is, The Music People start to download a music file.
They then record IP addresses off people who they are downloading off.
They send these IP addresses off to the ISP companys who issue the letters.
Nothing will happen if you get caught. ISP have thus far refused to disconnect users for this as they dont want to lose buisness and they also do not send information to anyone else. For ISPs to take you to court they would have to pay a good phew grand in legal fees just to get the information from the ISPs. So they dont do it.
It is pretty much impossible for them to do anything about it. For them to do that they would have to prove you downloaded and listened too the entire music track. Off course this is impossible.

Not had a warning letter as such, but received an email last month from my ISP to say I'd gone over my 15GB monthly download allowance. I had downloaded 25GB last month apparently. :dunno:
If I do it again, they'll charge me 60p per extra GB I go over my allowance.

ISP wont be 2 bother IMO or they wouldnt offer high GB download limits
I was told by Sky when i signed up for my broadband that its was extremely unlikely that i would ever have to worry about being charged for going over my download limit.
If you go over you allowance they send you a letter and after the third time they are meant to start charging you but the guy i spoke to when ordering it told me that its a lot of hassle for them to deal with and they only really crack down on the people taking the piss and going seriously over thier limits on a regular basis.
