I wonder how many of you were aware of this story which had it's fortieth anniversary just recently?

The Greatest Cricketer of all-time achieves the 'impossible'. (http://stuartfrew.wordpress.com/2008/08/31/sir-garry-sobers-celebration-of-a-great/)

He really was too, I promise you.

Is this the only instance of 6 sixes in a first class game ever?

I know Herchelle Gibbs did it against Holland in the 2007 World Cup and Yuvraj Singh tonked Stuart Broad for 36 runs in last years T20 World Cup but are those deemed First Class games or not? :dunno:

I had to look that one up.

Apparently Ravi Shastri hit six sixes playing for Bombay in a first-class game against Baroda back in 1984. Some feat.

Two of his sixes were the ball bouncing out of the fielders hands and going over the rope

You mean Shastri's?

One of those from Sobers, the fielder actually caught but ended up over the rope in doing so.
