I hope it is deemed appropriate to offer a mesage of condolence to the loved ones of recently killed Edinburgh soldier Gary O'Donnell.
I was at school with Gary and remember him as a decent lad who got on with everybody. Not having seen him for 20 odd years I was genuinly shocked and saddened to hear of his death.

While we may all have differing opinions on the nature of the British Military presence worldwide, perhaps it would be respectful just to acknowledge the fact that a young man has died doing what he did for a living.

Rest in peace Gary. One of the good guys.

:agree: He seemed to get more news time than most British deaths in the region, and the coverage suggested he had saved many lives. Reflected also in him receiving the George medal.

R.I.P. Gary.

One who actually did back up his belief with deeds.

I read about Gary in the paper on Saturday, I was really saddened to hear of his death. I remember the story from a while back of how he stopped a bomb from going off by jamming his finger in a clothes peg at the last minute.
The man was a true hero to many. RIP.
