The Banking sector is in big trouble with the collapse of Lehman brothers, HBOS shares have plunged by 34%. What does this mean for the ordinary customer?

I think that we should all be very careful what's in our pockets when we go into one of their branches. Don't be fooled by the smiling assistant offering you a lovely red rose, or the seemingly happy go lucky bloke selling rolex watches for a fiver, and telling you to "looky looky".

HBOS have to get their profits back somehow, and if it means picking customers pockets, they'll do it. Think I'm joking? All I'll say is that would you trust anyone who puts a creepy looking guy like Howard on the box, and expects people to laugh. Laugh, I *****ing sh*t myself, he's like something out of Finding Nemo (or the new Domestos advert).

Other breaking news is that a brand new state of the art heart scanner is available at a knock down price, as Edinburgh Royal Infirmary can't afford the interest payments.

How much of an immediate impact to people think this is going to have on mortgage rates, thinking selfishly I am due to re-mortgage this month as my fixed rate has run out - bit concerned about not being able to get a
reasonable-ish deal now... :dunno:

No sympathy with the folks at Lehmans whatsoever. Definitely plenty for those who won't get crazy payouts for losing their jobs - the admin people, the contract staff etc. All the bankers can take a running jump for all I care.

I hope you have already had the offer approved, after todays news who knows whats going to happen. I think I am going to put mine off and leave it on variable rate for a couple of months until this all settles down a bit.
