...at least you know what you are getting into.

Why would anyone come out a nightclub and get into a saloon car without checking everything out? Simple answer is people are too drunk to do that so why would anyone risk it?

Genuine private hires drive around and pick up the scraps that are left at this time in the morning. It's great if you cant get a real cab and are offered a lift home out the blue. The police actually turn a blind eye to this because it gets rid of people. You must look for the plates on the front of the car if you are accepting a lift.

However, it has opened the door to bogus minicabs patrolling and picking up drunk women. It's surprisingly common in places where minicabs rule. The distinction isn't there.

This incident will disgust the whole Taxi and genuine PHC trade.

My advice is, surprisingly, if it aint black dont touch it!

If you have any proof, then this should be reported, but this appears to be a wild accusation.
How do you know that the private hire has not been telephoned?

This rapist needs to be caught and then off with his balls, this is the only solution available to stop him repeating this crime when he gets out of prison in 2/3 years time.:grr:

I fail to see how this story is a riposte to people who 'complain about black cabs' (whoever they may be). I think people complain about the COST of a cab not the type or colour.

The story is one of a predatory male and a traumatised victim not one to be used to score a point for black cabs IMHO.

Wild accustation? You obviously know nothing about the trade and have never been outside a nightclub at 3am for a while. Speak to any taxi driver, PHC driver or police officer and they will tell you it goes on.

As for reporting it...what's the point? Nothing will come of it as it's a means of getting the crowds off the streets as soon as possible. everyone is a winner in the council and polices eyes.

Totally agree about the punishment though.

You're correct and I agree 100%. Wine taking over.

My intention was to highlight the crime and how people should be more vigilant. In my book rape is one of the most horrific crimes you can commit against a fellow human being and if such crimes are connected to my field of work then you can forgive me for being over-emotional about the subject.

It's not about the type of cab it's about people being a bit more sensible! I was speaking to a pair of PHC drivers tonight and they're worried sick about this incident as they think it will put people off phoning them. It's hard enogh as it is.

I will happily act as a witness, having seen PHCs "checking their phone" sitting at the Tron rank at 3 in the morning. Furthermore, I was walking along Ferry Road at Drylaw Shops early one January Saturday morning when one actually stopped his car to offer me a lift.

A common trick is to show up outside the Omni Centre and shout Taxi for Smith, someone is guaranteed to give you a hire.

It goes on, everyone knows it. It's a bit stupid of the passenger and the driver as insurance won't cover them.

It underlines the need for a regulated servicei in which people can trust. As a apposed to a "Lazy-Fare "capitalist free for all .(as it is known in the trade).
