View Full Version : Strike action - schools shut!!!
I got a letter this morning from my sons high school saying that due to planned industrial action the school is closed on wednesday and hopefully back on thursday. This is edinburgh but presumably it will be everywhere??
Edit: Obviously should read 'schools' but some nice admin will come along and fix it soon :greengrin

My wife says it's just West Lothian but not sure if it is definite yet. Something similar happened last year she thinks but was resolved at the last moment. A hassle as were not sure if holiday club can operate without a janny and it just costs us more money :grr:

Had a look at the Council (Edinburgh) web-site, and they say that they've been notified of strike action for Wednesday. They are going to assess the school position on Monday when school staff return to work, and put info on the website , radio etc.. on Tuesday. Lots of time, then, for anxious parents to get arrangements made.

Can feel a 'working from home' day coming
My two oldest go to an edinburgh High school and the letter says Edinburgh council have informed the school that the proposed action is still planned to go ahead so they have given us notice of it being shut. I have heard nothing from west Lothian where my 2 wee ones go to primary school, they would normally get a letter home on Tuesday night if we are lucky.

Got letters today from Midlothian Cooncil today. The majority of schools out here are closed on Wednesday, but some are open, including the one my eldest goes to, BUT the nursery for that school, where my other daughter goes to, is closed.
Get it sorted Petrie. :grr:

Think it the same for us over in Fife but our kids go back on Tuesday, that mean they will work for 1 day then go on strike on the Wednesday

:agree: 6 weeks off, 1 day back, 1 day off, 2 days back, 2 days off.
With a little bit of common sense the schools could easily run without a bell, and presumably without a dining hall aswell, well mine could because we are close to shops.

My wife works in a primary school in West Calder and she was told on Monday that it wouldnt affect West Lothian schools. She isnt in today as she works part time so that could possibly change but that was what she was told yesterday.
Was speaking to a dinner lady at a west lothian High school yesterday and she said that although they are on strike the schools are still open but the nurseries are on strike. I assume the nusery nurses are off and it will be packed lunches tomorrow.
I am missing my wee ones today :boo hoo:

I got a letter from breakfast/after school club yesterday saying that they cannot open tomorrow but that mid calder primary will be open but kids need to take in packed lunches.
You have never seen two boys look so miserable :greengrin. At least I've got an excuse to skive off work at half 2 to pick them up then get away in good time to watch Deano & Fletch
