Last Thursday i passed my driving test, and today i got my pass plus, hoping to cut a bit off my car insurance. Im undecided on a car to get at the moment, something cheap, but im really struggling to find car insurance for under £1800 full comp and £1200 3rd party on the regular 1st cars such as 106s and Fiestas.

This is i guess down to the fact that im a young driver obviosly and ive just got on the road, and because my parent doesn't drive i cant get name don anyone else's policy, i knew that car insureance was expensive, but is it really this expensive?

Yea, its extortionate.
I had a Clio and cost me £875 fully comp as the 2nd driver. That was with the car being kept in a garage overnight and not used for work etc plus the first driver had 9 years no claims.
I then got a 1.4 Megane sport which was £1300 which i don't think is that bad, i looked into getting it in my own name but since im only 17 CIS insurance wanted £3600 for it!

my Mazda was 1600 for the first year and that was a 1.6. went through direct line, but have been looking around for my renewal in october. Cheapest place i have found is bell.co.uk. gonna be 488 for 10 months with a bonus accelerator or something. apparently you can get your year no claims in 10months for a bit more ££ each month, and compare that to the 900 directline were wanting.

also admiral is quite good aswel

I recently got car Insuarnce for my son who just passed his test, quotes were ranging from £2000 -£2600 but I came accross an Insurance Co on the internet called Crowthorne Insurance Services for £1450 which very good for an 18yr old on a 1200cc car.

Let me know how you get on?

well done on passing you test mate:thumbsup:

I think car insurance is really stupid and it stareotypes(sp)alot of younger drivers. They assume they all drink and do drugs, i know some, do but they are alot of good safe young drivers.
As to insurance i would look around, they are a few sites like moneysupermaket.com that get maybe 10different insurances quotes from 10different companises.
I would also advice to find and drive a used and not a brand new car.
Also dont go full comp, try get thrid party fire and theft.
Good luck mate and safe driving:thumbsup:

Bloody hell, some of those prices are plain scary.

What annoys me is in the UK is car insurance is on the person, over here in CZ and in most other countries it is on the car which makes more sense. Means I can drive to teh pub get pissed and someone else can drive back legally!

It is madness and young drivers are being targetted due to the behaviour of a few. I pay £230 for my Mercedes, due to my age and the fact that boy racers don't tend to own them.

I asked around the car club I’m in (BMW) and they said …

1 of my nephews was quoted around the same amount for insuring a wee car what a nightmare it is or them unless they can go down as a named driver.
Just had a wee google
here is the pages for you to browz
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&sa=X&oi=spell&a mp;a mp;resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=insurance+companies +for+1st+time+drivers&spell=1 (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&sa=X&oi=spell&a mp;a mp;resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=insurance+companies +for+1st+time+drivers&spell=1)

and

Try Co-op (CIS)I went with them when I first started - they gave me 2 years NCD as a new driver which can be carried forwards. Think I paid about £500 odd for TPFT on an E30 316 [that's code for a wee old BMW]. The following year I switched to Churchill's and saved over £100.

Maybe just trawl the internet using the price comparative websites - get a quote you like then look at the companies website, it may be cheaper on their own sites - ring them up an haggle, I do and it works

Pass plus, some insurers give 30% for obtaining that, so I'm told.

Whilst I can sympathize (I had to pay insurance for both my brats so know how much it costs) I can also see the insurance companies' point. The sad fact is most accidents involve newly qualified and or young drivers. Whether this is caused by drink, drugs speeding, inexperience or anything else is a moot point IMO. As it happens mine have had three cars written off, none of them where mine were fully at fault. One was down to inexperience and being too close to someone who decided to slow down suddenly and turn a corner without indicationg. Little one was too close to do anything about it. Other two no blame at all attributed to them, but booger me it is costing me big time!!!!!

So what do you do when your car gets stolen from the street outside your house with no garage and you ask for a Courtesy Car for getting to your work?

When the car is found burnt out and they ask for the MOT Cert to see its valid, they realise that you do 10,000+ miles a year and when they see the V5 and Purchase Receipt, they see you paid more for it than you claim you did.

Then during the investigations of the theft, they ask to speak to your wife about her knowledge of it and they realise that she doesn't exist.

Then when it comes to making a claim, the Insurance Company wont indemnify you because you lied on your initial application and you're left with a damaged car, which you have to pay for out your own pocket.

Car insurance in the UK is a complete rip off. I insure our 2 cars (one grande one petite :greengrin) fully comp. along with our house contents for a total of about £900 per year.

Apart from being young, the most important factor in insuring cars is the postcode you stay at. it;s a total rip off.

There is a insurance broker at the bottom of Kirkbrae who is very good, cant remember the name though. Someone might be able to help with the name

If you lie and get caught, you'd be as well not having insurance.

Do what I did!

Get an old banger and insure it for a couple of years on TPF&T for a couple of years and then buy a decent car and do fully comprehensive with your now accummilated no claims discount, but then, thinking about it, a youngster wouldn't be seen driving around in an old banger.

It's either cred or money in the pocket.

I passed my test today :woohoo:

it does mean however that my missus' insurance will be jumping from about £400 a year to £650 with me as a named driver.

But for that i get to drive a 2.0 Kia Sportage (http://sonowe.com/05_kia_sportage_ft_intro.jpg) :smug:
