Don't know if this is the right forum for this - move it if necessary, admin - but I see that Sir Tom is on radio 4 on Wednesday, talking about the house he grew up in. A tenement in Leith apparently.
9am on Wednesday, and if you miss it then there's a chance to miss it again at 9.30pm.

Completely off topic, but what is it with your display picture?
Have you joined Westboro Baptist Church?!
:grr:
The Avatar's just a dig at some of the cranks that are going about - just makes me grin a bit.
I've never been a member of any church and wouldn't be seen dead near Westboro Baptist Church (never even heard of them tbh).

Oh right, cool.
Well basically they walk around with placards reading 'God Hates Fags' and stuff, they're insane. And they picket at soldier's funerals because 'God Hates America' apparently. They're totally horrible horrible people. And I knew I recognised the placards because I saw them on a Channel 4 documentary once... so that's why I was asking!
Phew. :aok:
I think that bit might be true - I don't smoke either.

Don't get me started... :grr:
There's no point in claiming that God 'hates' anyone. How is this logically possible to prove?
About as easy as it is to prove he loves everyone
Off to the Holy Ground with this thread....:bye:

Looks like I already have....:greengrin
To start out believing in a god and then come to the conclusion that he hates everyone just defies logic IMO.

Makes no sense. Ha, anyways, I'm remaining agnostic. :agree:
Me too.
Back on topic, I'll probably give the radio show a listen.

In the same way that anyone who believes that an all-knowing [omnipresent] God which is all-powerful [omnipotent] can someone allow suffering to innocents, be it through man's hand or natural disasters etc defies belief.
Love putting that one to religious cats and seeing them spin round on the spot in ever-decreasing circles until the disappear up their own...
Worst pish ever IMHO - more wars started, people persecuted and innocents killed from religion than every other reason ever... good enough reason to keep all aspects of it at arms length IMO...

Ah, but "god moves in mysterious ways."
Which is as big a cop-out as "before there was something there was nothing."
Which is why I'm staying on this fence.

And yet Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot were all atheists. :dunno:

Religion is worshiped by people who have big empty holes in their lives.
There is no god, whatever idol you worship.
There is a perfectly rational explenation of how the world was formed.
Why has no one ever seen god, jesus, allah......... cos they never existed.
The bible was written by a confidence trickster...... I could go on but I eagerly await the retorts.

God has moved mysteriously into this thread about STF on the radio - could be some truth in it right enough

Em, plenty of non-biblical evidence to suggest that this man existed. Whether he was God's Son or not is another matter completely....

You'd be hard-pressed to find a historian who didn't say that a man named Jesus (or Joshua) existed in first century Judea/Gallilee.
