Graduate a year ago... Business and Finance. Work in finance now.
Top for part time uni work:
Work a year in the bank - look good on CV, trusted, prestige, people, sales
A year in retail (electronics, clothing etc) - dealing with people/sales,
A year doing something else
-Get as much exposure to different industries as you can whilst at uni. See what you like. Dont set yourself on banking / finance just now.
As for the original question, there are LOADS of opportunities in Banking, particularly in Edinburgh/London.
Edit: if you are set on working on banking Id suggest, if possible, to switch course to a more finance/banking based course.

well my degree is in management, but im thinking of changing it to either management with marketing, or management with finance, i'll see what i find best when im at uni. yea i've worked in B&Q for a year, but i agree that a job in a bank is a good start for me. very hard job to get at the mo tho! cheers for the advice.

Steer clear of high street banking and get into investment banking and fund management, that's where the money is :woohoo:

at the end of second year - make sure you get out and get a different summer job.
perhaps go back to the bank afterwards during term time.
then at end of 3rd year ull have no probs getting a decent intern

i dont get it, why would leaving the bank for a few months and working somewhere else help me get an internship there?

get broader experience.
If you go to work for a bank in september and work there for 2 years (and presuming at end of 1st year you work 3 months full time) you'll know masses of stuff about retail banking. what do you know about anything else and what more can you learn at the bank?
Take 3 months summer hols and work in another industry - see if you enjoy it. particularly if you have such a flexible degree as management.
post again in 18 months and see whats what!!!
