this won't get the same press coverage as the initial allegatons did, but no further action is being taken.

"The law confers a blanket of anonymity on complainants but the accused enjoys no such protection.
"Instead his reputation, his character, his career and his family are regarded as fair game by the media.
"There is little justice and no fairness in what our client and his family have been put through."
The sooner those accused are given anonymity, until proven guilty, the better.

This is entirely unsurprising. How were the police ever going to prove or disprove allegations of rape where the offence supposedly took place more than ten years ago?
I don't know what sort of person John Leslie is - how he lives his life is his own affair, so long as he doesn't cause hurt to other people.
But EITHER he should have been granted anonymity until the charges were proven (or at least until the CPS was prepared and ready to charge him and go to court) OR the identity of the woman making the allegations should now be made public.
Craig Charles received the same treatment a few years back - allegations were made, but never proven. The mud stuck, and the guy's career was almost destroyed.

The statistics for convictions in cases where rape is alleged makes grim reading (something like 1 in 20). That means that for every rapist who's convicted there are 19 men who've been named (and most likely shamed) but not convicted.
Now, common sense tells me that of those 19 there will be a percentage who are as guilty as Hell, but even more worrying, there will be a percentage who are as innocent as Hell but whose reputation and life are forever tainted.
And the women who make the allegations are forever protected ,even when it's proven beyond doubt that the real victim is the accused.
The sooner this bit of the law is changed the better and then we can truly be proud of the Scottish Legal system.
