Been listening loads to Otis Redding recently. What a voice. IMHO the greatest male singer ever.

A few years back saw a performance he did on Ready Steady Go where he sang with two British singers (one of them was from the Animals I think) and it was amazing.

Much better than a lot of the guff out nowadays.

Otis Blue/Otis Sings Soul is an absolutely fantastic album. Stax/Volt at its best.

Love Otis....get live at Montery Pop Festival....quality!!! Used to have it on vinyl with Hendrix on the other side, lost it over the years. Have since downloaded both full sets though

Dunno about his tunes, but his name is cool as ****..

Imagine speaking to a chick in a bar..

"What's your name?"

"Otis Redding"

"Get your coat, you've pulled"

Still have this on vinyl - what a great performance by Otis - the one that really made him in front of a predominently white audience. Otis and his 'love crowd'!

Otis is also my favourite singer of all-time. There have been some great and influential soul singers from his era but I don't believe any of them could put as much feeling into his voice. He personfies what 'soul' is all about.

Simply the greatest of them all, (with respects to Sam Cooke).

Otis is my favourite soulman too (closely followed by Sam & Dave)

Some of his live recordings make my hairs stand up on end - every word is sung with total passion.

I have "The Definitive Otis Redding" 4 cd boxset that includes a great booklet and a live CD. One of the tracks he sings is a soul version of the Bing Crosby hit "White Christmas" - when I saw it listed I though WTF? - but he totally pulled it off.

Wish I could have seen the big man live in concert :boo hoo:

Peter Gabriel apparently named his song Sledgehammer in homage to Otis' powerful delivery of songs :agree:
