The whole TV licence thing MUST be illegal.
Can Tescos kick down your front door , throw messages up your hall then tell you to pay for them ?
Shocking !

I think it's a bit harsh charging you for having a PC. However, you can recieve BBC through your PC to technically they are entitled to do so.
Just buy a black and white licence and turn the colour down on your telly when they come round....or tell them you have a black and white PC.

That's only if you watch tv through it. If not then you don't need one.
I don't see what is unbelievable about that

Because it doesn't matter what channels you watch or listen to, you need a licence to use TV receiving equipment, including TV, video or DVD recorder, digital box, computer or mobile phone.:greengrin

You only need a license if you are using a PC to watch TV through it, otherwise you don't, so really it's not that unbelievable.

So people who don't want to pay for a licence never listen to the radio or look at the BBC website? The licence pays for a whole lot more than BBC TV channels.

But it is a tv licence, not a pc or radio licence
" You need a TV Licence to use any television receiving equipment such as a TV set, digital box, DVD or video recorder, PC, laptop or mobile phone to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV. "
Seems pretty clear to me, doesn't say anything about listening to the radio or the bbc website.

chez has just got confused because of the ambiguous way it is written.
It means if you will use the PC, DVD player, mobile etc to receive TV, you need to pay up.
For example some people have TV receivers built in to their PC. My DVD player has one built in also.

You have a point there - perhaps I've mis-read it :greengrin. I imagine it would be quite difficult proving to them I am not using my pc or mobile to not watch tv though

So that means that every office in the UK has to have a TV Licence

No
Do I need a TV Licence?
You need a TV Licence to use any television receiving equipment such as a TV set, digital box, DVD or video recorder, PC, laptop or mobile phone to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV.
If you use a digital box with a hi-fi system or another device that can only be used to produce sounds and can't display TV programmes, and you don't install or use any other TV receiving equipment, you don't need a TV Licence.

Do TV Licence Detector vans really exist, and if so, can the technology be adapted and used for the thus-far fruitless search for one O.Bin Laden and the Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq?

You may think I'm nuts. But believe me, similar equipment would have been used for that exact purpose and other goals :shhhsh!:

What gets me is folk who dont have digital still have to fork out for the digital channels.
The whole thing is a rip off.
I am very surprised this has not been raised in the European court of Human Rights.
