"Welsh says he has become "obsessed" with the American field sport, and prefers it now to football. Or was that soccer? "Football bores the f***ing **** out of me," he says. "I renew my Hibs season ticket every year out of blind loyalty but you know that only one or two teams can win in Scotland. Money has destroyed the idea of the outcome. With baseball, you're in the sun, you get a beer, and it's a very relaxing day. It's not Easter Road in January in the pissing rain.""

This made me chuckle. Soft bassa :bitchy::tee hee:

I'd rather watch one game at 'Easter Road in January in the pissing rain' than a hundred baseball games in the sun. Most genuine Hibbies I know would too.

Just finished it. Very different from Welsh's other books, but a real page-turner, very well written, and a difficult issue handled well. Set in Miami with Edinburgh flashbacks, the hero is a Jambo cop (Robbo's pal Lennox from Filth) and is actually quite a sympathetic character, but there is a hilarious complete chapter on the Hearts-Dundee game at 1986 (much of it through Wallace Mercer's eyes) which is required reading for all Hibees and destined for cult status.

Don't tend to read books(only read one really, These Colours Don't Run) but actually really wanting to get this book. Storyline is quite a gripping one, and with the views on the book so far, actually seems like it will be a book that I will enjoy reading.

I'd imagine like most scots who live abroad he will one day be sitting in the sun with his beer in hand wishing he was back at ER in january in the pissing rain. Love some of his books but it must be hard for someone who doesn't know much about embra or hibs to really get a handle on what he's on about ?:dunno:
