Was reading today that it would cost £3BN p.a. to eradicate child poverty in the UK. Also read that the UK governemnt had a budget of £8BN p.a. set aside for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I am all for the "support our boys" and think the men over there fighting are brave individuals but when I see what the taxpayers money (my money) is being spent on I am seriously questioning what the purpose of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan is about - we can spend £8BN fighting a war thousands of miles away or we can spend half that and eradicate child poverty in the UK for ever...I know what I would prefer.

This is what gets me every time a NHS Trust can't afford to pay for a particular drug. They have a limited budget, so sometimes people can't get the treatment they want. You have to ask, why can't the war money be spent on things that people really need?

How are these figures calculated? Willing tae accept correction, though've never been wholly convinced when it's reported that x Conflict costs y Billion Pounds.

Britain retains a standing Army, Navy, and Air-force which already costs a packet. Being involved in conflict will inevitably incur additional costs like: -

a) Long over-seas supply chains

b) Extra Fuel (patrols, sorties, etc)

c) Vehicle , Aircraft, and Weapon wear, tea, and damage

d) Ammunition expended

Anything else? :dunno:

How £8,000,000,000 per annum is budgetted/spent however still seems a complete mystery.

The goverment is a total joke. Iraq is lost and they need to pull the troops out and equipment and boost Afgan. This is all a big face saving exercise and pretence of being a major power which we have not been since the first gulf war.
Even if they did put the money to child poverty parents would spend on fags and booze rather than provide for their children more. Too many wasters such as Karen Mathews in this world. :brickwall
We are a nation of people relying on benefit and handouts, hoodies and political correctness, feral youth and incompetant leaders god help us. :grr:

No really, Not meaning all but the likes of Karen Mathews and others of her ilk would rather her children do without before themselves. Not everyone but certainly a fair few. We live in a me me me society sod the rest. :brickwall

There is more good people than bad but get dragged down by the crap that contributes nothing and expects everything for nothing.
