Up to you but I took my car to Kwik Fit for a MOT. It failed and the repairs were going to cost over 700 quid.
Took it to another place and lo and behold it passed.

Definitely worth getting a second opinion. I would use the voucher and get your MOT done by them, but if the bill is a fair whack, take it somewhere else (I've used Farmers in Musselburgh and Piershill before with no complaints, and have also been happy with Nationwide next to Halfords in Seafield) and ask them their opinion. If you're lucky, they might just do a quick visual inspection of the car for nothing based on what Kwik Fit recommend.

You are taking a huge risk going to someone like kwik fit imho especially if on the basis of a free mot voucher. We recently had two cars needing an mot done and our local garage squeezed them in that very same day for no extra charge and passed with ease infact the only extra cost was some new engine oil. If it were me i would be tempted to take it to a trusted garage and watch it pass with ease then take it to the kwik fit garage to see what "faults" they pick up then produce the mot certificate saying well funny it just passed the other day.

Had to go into KwikFit yesterday in Edinburgh (the one near Saughton Jail), husband had a flat.
Took it in, they couldn't get one of the wheel nuts off so had to break it off. Then said the tyre wasn't fixable as it had glass in it.
Husband told them just to put the spare on.
Took the car back to Kwik Fit in Perth (husband knows the manager there).
Lo and behold, tyre can be sorted no problem at a fraction of the cost of a new tyre for his big car!
Bunch of Shiesters!! :grr:
Dont do it last year needed 4 tyres went KW @ Porty £375 ,went Budget at Piershill same tyres £240 went to double check tyres@ KW Mc Donald Rd yup £375 , but I can get them from budget for £240 I was just checking again OK Sir we will match that price , this is in a full waiting room so I said you dont really think Im going to buy them from you do you yes but your charging me an extra£135 thats our price but we will match that if you get it in writing . So folks old Budget ( no sure what its called ) folks same side as Morrisons at Piershill as for Big Willie sound guy happy motoring :greengrin

I'm tempted to take it as it might pass and it will save me £40.
If it fails , i will take it elsewhere:agree:

need new tyres....?
log on to www.blackcircles.com find the cheapest price for the tyres.
Then phone kwik fit, ask for the same size tyre and note the difference.
Don't accept the first price and always ask if they will match the price from black circles. Most times they will as they will not want to miss the sale.
I saved over £60 on one tyre using this method.
If they don't match the price, ask for a price for just fitting a new tyre, purchase it online and pay the fitting costs. Usually you'll save a few bob
Kwik Fit have never had anything other than a bad reputation and its just got worse over the years.
I find this very surprising given the high moral values of the founder, STF. Its something I’ve never been able to get my head round.

After getting done rotten over the years at Arnies I've been using Farmers at Blackhall for a couple pf years and the've brilliant. Just took the wifes car in after a bad servicing experience at Arnies and they done what was actually needed for a third of the price and done some of the other stuff free of charge. I wouldn't have any worries about getting rammed there.
They also just done a new radaitor for my car which after giving me a price, they then got the runaround from suppliers and had to buy it direct from Alfa but still only charged me quoted price, as you would hope. The boss' name is Jim and he phoned me a couple of times to keep me posted as to what was happening.

Good news, I suppose this thread proves that people are quicker to point out problems than give praise for good service!
(For the record, I've had both good service and problems from Kwik Fit )

I sometimes pop into the Kwik Fit in Dunfermline, just along the road from East End Park, and they have always been first rate.
They even did a couple of wee jobs completely free for me when I didn't know what I was doing. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Yes mate. Its all part of their evil plan to draw you into their web of deceit.
Couple of free jobs then hit you with a doozer.:greengrin

I used to drive a 14 seater minibus for my family of 7,8 or nine kids, also doing the school run and picking up 4 more kids and so safety was a big issue for me.
When I thought my brakes were lacking a bit, I took it to Kwik-fit and told them my fears. They examined my brakes, asked me about my weekly mileage, "tweeked" or something the brake cables and told me that I had at least 6 months useage on my brakes, all for no charge.
You cannot argue that I had given them carte blanche to rip me off but they didn't.

I've never trusted Kwik Fit since I took my '85 Mini there for a problem with my front brakes. They quoted about 300 quid and were going to replace almost everything until I told my car-enthusiast mate who told me to tell them not to do the work and he would help me. 12 quid and a couple of hours later the brakes were as good as new.
