52,000 licensed premises in Scotland

Glasgow has 1,500 licensed premises, Edinburgh has 2,000!!! :faint:

I suspect I’ve been in most of the Edinburgh ones.:whistle:

I got these figures from an article on the Scotsman website.

As usual the a person, who I quoted who was going on about pub type places, wants to sound more important than they actually are by inflating stats, in this case The Scottish Beer and Pub Association. Yes there are 2,000 licensed premises in Edinburgh but there is only about half of that could be considered as proper drinking establishments and just over a third that are boozers.

Didn’t find their names but I did find this for Edinburgh.

LICENSED PREMISES 2005

No. of liquor licenses, by type

Hotel 151
Restricted hotel 44
Public house 747
Restaurant 186
Entertainment 95
Refreshment 97
Off-sales 636
TOTAL 1,956

No. of registered clubs 266

:agree: Hardly anyone is going to the pub/staying long in pubs since the smoking ban - smokers are just deciding to buy drink from the supermarket and having it at home.

I don't think that is universally true TBH - up here in Aberdeen, especially in pubs catered more to students there has been no noticeable effect of the smoking ban on sales in pubs / clubs.

Where are all the non-smokers who whinged about passive smoking? Surely as they are in the majority, the pubs should be busier now that they can go for a drink without risking death?

More and more places doing the same thing. It's a right wing Christian reaction to the permissive society. Nobody wants us to have fun any more.
