Train Journey's - Public Transport Really Cheaper?

At the weekend, I was involved in a 4 car pile up on the A90, between Dundee and Perth. I was the last car to be hit, so only recieved damage to the back of the car (as well as myself) but nonetheless, left the car at home this weekend so it could be taken to Bennett's (in Edinburgh) by my parents, to have the damage assessed (£1500! Thank God i'm not in any way liable!) and booked in for a repair.

Leaving Bathgate (on a Sunday afternoon), with an open return to Dundee - cost? £29.80!!!!! No ****ing wonder people don't use public transport so frequently these days - the national and International agenda's would have you sell your car and rely purely on public transport, but logistically, it's a pointless exercise!

I can fill may car up for £40, give or take with current fuel costs (which, evidently, seem set to rise (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7384427.stm)), which gets me from Bathgate to Dundee and back again (2 return journies). Granted, it's an extra body of emission but it's much more cost effective than the shower of robbing *******s who run the transport in this country :grr:

I used to always get the bus or train from aberdeen to edinburgh becuase i thought it was cheaper, i started using the car when the fares became so expensive! £30 return on the train! It's as if they don't want us to use public transport. Although with petrol being so expensive now it might have to be back to using the bus :brickwall

Thankfully don't need to pay an excess because i've absolutely no liability at all - insurance company are happy to pay the excess as they claim it straight back from another company - dunno the ins and outs, but it suits me! :greengrin

Wish I had the stomach for bus journey's - would be a lot easier!
