Seeing as there seem to be quite a few golfers on here (and no doubt a fair few supporters of the MacMillan Nurses), I thought I should post my task to raise funds for them over the summer.

Myself and 3 others from Dundee Uni are taking part in a "Longest Day of Golf" event, in which we shall play 72 holes in 1 day!!! A VERY arduous task, but one i'm thoroughly looking forward to!

We're (hopefully) starting at Piperdam golf course at 6am (on the outskirts of Dundee - waiting on them to get back to us though!) before moving onto Camperdown, Ballumbie and then finishing at Open Qualifying course Downfield, getting off the course around 9.30/10pm! The three courses who have gotten back to me have offered their courses for no fee, which is brilliant as it will maximise the funds going to MacMillan.

If anyone is so inclined to make a donation, i'd be delighted, but my main aim of starting this thread is to alert any others to the event, who may be interested in trying it.

More information here (http://www.macmillan.org.uk/golf).

Cheers!

Did this a couple of years back, but did all 4 rounds at the same course (Burntisland). You'll have your work cut out to squeeze in the 4 rounds plus travel, but it'll be good fun trying!!!

Bizarrely, my best rounds of the day were rounds 1 and 4. Thought I'd be on my knees, but felt okay by the end of the 4th round.

Good luck.

Huge thanks to those who have helped so far - truly appreciated!

Even if you would consider donating 50p or a £1, it would be very much obliged! We have until the 26th of June to raise £1000, so every little will help!

Cheers!

Hi Scott, Are these clubs making a special concession just for your 4 or for other groups who would be looking to do it as I'd be up for it and easilly get 3 mates to do it.

I don't know to be entirely honest...It certainly wasn't just a case of asking and recieving a tee-time though:

I emailed nearly 20 clubs in the Tayside/Perthshire region and only recieved 7 responses (4 positive and 3 polite "no can do's").

Carnousite said no, on account that they were already hosting another group, St Andrews said no as they had had several similar requests and Gleneagles were happy to help, but were still looking for £75 per person, per round (which seems steep, but is actually a very generous offer from them, as usual rounds are nigh on £150!). I think the more prestigious courses will be reluctant to help too many folks - I didn't expect a "yes" from these courses to be honest, on account of many people having the same idea.

Downfield are being fantastic, and were the first club to offer us anything at no cost, but set the stipulation of a time when we could use the course (which is fair enough, as they have to appease their own members). The other 3 courses are usually quite quiet so were able to fit us in quite easily - not sure if they're hosting any others to be quite honest!

If you're interested in doing it, then gather a team and register ASAP. I'd simply advise either phoning or emailing as many clubs around you as possible - if you're a member at a course, try there first, as they may be more willing to accomodate a member to 4 free rounds for you, plus guests!

Good luck if you do take part, and hopefully see you in Portugal for the final!
