London attractions

Im heading to London this weekend for a bit of touristy type shenanigans.

Anyone got any recommendations for places to go, things to do?

Not interested in your Madame Tussauds or London Eye, more after something different I might never have heard of. Suggestions welcome - all good clean family fun please.

Difficult what with not knowing your interests but I'd give the Globe Theatre a look.

And if memory serves me right (although its a big if) I have vague recall of the old HMS Hibernian being docked near the Tower.

The British Museum is supposed to be pretty good - mummies and Egyptian stuff amongst other bits and pieces. I think its free.

Also the Tate modern impressive space and some decent art if thats your thing.

Richmond Park - you can get a ferry thing down the river from Tower Bridge to take you there.

The Comedy Store Leicester Sq if you can get a ticket.

My sister was down last summer and she was banging on about this thing called Duck Tours (www.londonducktours.co.uk). It's an amphibious car that drives around and does a semi-aquatic tour of the city. Not sure if it would be your cup of tea or not but though it was worth a mention as it's a bit different.

I believe the Waterstones on Oxford Street has a large selection of guide books.

Take some time out in the evening to head to convent garden to feel the buzz around the place, watch some of te performers, and if you have the cash, stop off for an extortionate pint.

Go to a Millwall game and shout "Hibs CCS"

You will be amazed at all your new friends and the carnival atmosphere:wink:

If it were fifteen years ago I would say Backpackers and the Church in Kings Cross. Magic times. :thumbsup:

Bank of England museum-sounds dull but fascinating.-free and you get to lift an ingot of gold worth over £150000

Like someone else has said, depends on what your interests are as there is something for everyone.

If you like shopping theres Oxford Street for the highstreet shops, Covent Garden is good for more boutique type shops & both Camden market & Portobello Road market (in Notting Hill) are decent.

Loads of nice bars and restaurants down by the river if its nice weather and Hyde Park is always nice for a wander in the sunshine. Also take a walk across the not so wobbly anymore Millenium bridge :greengrin

Also worth a visit is The Absolut Ice Bar in Mayfair, you need to book though IIRC as you can only go in for about half an hour. Everything is made of ice and you get a cape type thing to wear :greengrin

Afternoon Tea in Claridges is superb.

Then go into the main bar and watch the Russian hookers trying to snare punters! :wink:
