Finding this really useful now, really geting into using it. Along with 4OD. ITV even has it's own catch up thing, although it is quite poor, with only a small numbers of programs available.
One question howver, why does the Iplayer not have MOTD????:brickwall

Yeh, really like the I Player. Means i can watch then when i want & not when the bbc want me to. Not sure how the license fee works though, surely you need one for viewing that too but apparently not! Probably don't have the rights to have on demand highlights on the EPL.
Channel 4 has a decent catch up thing too. 4OD

It must be really popular with students who want tv, but dont want a licence fee. So with their (normally) free internet they can use these services.

A TV Licence is still required with a computer in the house :agree:

So next year at halls of residence. I need a tv license to watch 4od and bbc programs on the internet?
That's kind of ridiculous IMO. I know a family that had a small holiday cottage which had no tv or internet. Yet about 4 times a year the tv license people sent letters saying that they had been monitoring, and knew they'd been watching tv. It got to the stage that the family had to drive 5h to the cottage, to meet a licensing person in order to prove there was no tv.

No you don't. You only need a tv license if you have a computer if you are receiving a signal through it.

No, the i player says you don't need a license, you only need a license if you are watching tv live on the internet (apparently).
I'm not saying this is what you should do but a large amount of students don't bother getting tv licenses because they never catch up with you. it's a disgrace how they want everyone in your student flat to have one.

Yeah, true, but most of the stuff I want to watch is up there for free. I wonder if the other channels will think about putting up their own back catalogue. I'd love to watch some old CBBC programmes!

4OD: Caution if using the P2P function - it uses the disgusting Kontiki P2P software. This will eat ISP bandwidth since its default allows continous P2P sharing. :ill:
Binned it .

The programs that are free are channel 4 produced, others like movies etc that they have bought must be paid for.
MOTD highlights can be found on footytube easily:wink:

What does this mean?

What does this mean?
Unless its been changed,:dunno: it means that other 4OD users might be loading up Channel 4 programmes using yer upload bandwidth anytime an internet connection is made, ie, usually anytime the PC (and Kontiki) is active.
If yer ISP charges per Gb or enforces limits , this might cause problems or unwanted restrictions. Worth checking?
The BBC P2P implementation is slightly less objectionable since, IIRC, it makes it easier tae disallow other users sharing.
