OK I dont get out often now the wee man has arrived but consoled myself in quaffing the odd ale or two at home.
I've pushed the boat out from my usual suspects but wondered any foreign beers worth a punt?
I'm drinking a can of Karpackie at the moment and its pretty decent.
I like Baltica also.
Only trouble is they both only come in 500ml cans - hehehe.
Any other recommendations along the likes of if you like these try these...?
Tried some Czech beer as it was on promotion Fire-something and it was absolute pants.
My own preference is for something a bit lighter (Coors, Miller, Brahma, Sol or Corona) detest treacly stuff like special brew and the mad-%age Dutch/Belgian beers. Not keen on Becks - does that mean I dont like hopsy stuff ??? Anyway... any suggestions

CRAP - well I for one have never heard of it, I guess if the locals don't drink it here then it must be pash. Better fobbing it off to the UK where someone will by it.
But don't let a cheap crappy beer put you off trying other Czech beers.:agree:
I have just read that it is i fact brewed and bottled in Wiltshire!!

I loved that stuff, it was all i drank when i was in prague a couple of times a few years ago, im pretty sure it was cheaper than getting a coke aswell so that made it even easier to justify drinking!

I use that site a lot, you can browse beers by country etc.
I drink czech stuff at home, my dad brought LOADS of Budvar and Pilsner Urquell home from the CR last year, not seen keen on the Budvar but the Urquell is brilliant. Asda sells it, and not too expensive.
I see someone reccomended Tusker, acn't stand it really, had it last year at Nairobi airport and thought it was gash, same with the Kuche Kuche from Malawi.
HibeeBrasileirro - Try some of the Austrian / German Wheat beers, Erdinger / Eidelweiss etc, a nice smooth drink, though it makes you fart!:greengrin:wink:

Quite into Erdinger Weiss at the moment, although it has to be poured in the specially designed glasses they have. Never loses its head that way.
Incidently I was in the Nip after the game on Saturday. Pints of Tennants there have gone rank rotten. No head after two sips. Obviously not clearing the pipes properly.

I was in Florence a few years ago and also noticed Tennents Super everywhere!
Apparently, bottled Tennents Super is quite the trendy drink in the up market cafes in Italy.
God knows why

if your ever in antwerp you need to try a "Bolleke"(yes it is pronounced bollock e) of de konninck its ****ing wonderful and its only 5%.
leffe blonde is gorgeous (6% odd) and duvel is brilliant after one or 2 glasses of a different beer though it is 8.5%.
grimbergen is a tasty beer and its made by trappist monks(if only they had made a tonic wine instead:wink:)
the above three can all be found in tescos.
if anyone is ever in belgium(brussels or brugge etc...) i would highly recommend kwak. its nothing special taste wise but it comes in the coolest glass you will ever sup from!
ill also vouch for tyskie though i nearly chopped my finger off opening it(long story)
superbock is also fairly nice

Superbock is decent.
I managed to get it by the draught AND the bottle in Portugal...its vintage.

Superbock yup - in the same bracket as SKOL - and I donno why probably just tastes better in the sun certainly tasted good in Brazil.
Tsing Tao (Chinese beer) pretty good also.
Steer clear of the fruit brews tho' what are these Belgian monks at? Raspberry and Banana beer.

Its a belter. Something like 4.9% as well. Really cool bottle. Free glass if you buy a case!!
Mythos is also good but somehow doesn't taste as nice in rainy Edinburgh as it does in sunny Greece.
Tuborg is one of Denmark's best beers, forget Carlsberg.
Hmm, trying to think of others - Antarctica - had that the last time I visited Green Goblin over in Sao Paulo. Tremendous.

but foreign beers tend more to the lager side of things no?
Kilkenny was rocket fuel and I did like Boddingtons, Maclays 80/- and Tennents 80/- but they're not really foreign.

Super Bock from Portugal is also immense, probably the driest, crispest lager in the world.

On draught it's drinkable, in a can or bottle it's complete p1sh.

Spaights (sp) Gold is the Daddy, Pride of the south. When to the brewery down in duneden and they left us alone with the tap for like 2 hours, everyone was a bit cagey at first but i sorted that out by dispencing with the shot glass thing they give you and wiped out my handle and got fired in, they took a fair hit for my 10 dollers!
