The Evening News has reported that Monsignor Gemmell ( aged 54) has passed away.
He was the senior priest at St Mary's Catherdral at the top of the Walk.
"Fr David" was my Chaplin at Holy Cross just after he became a priest. He was a modern thinking priest who was a truly great guy.
He passed away whilst out in Barcelona whilst following his beloved Celtic.
I appreciate that this may not mean a lot to people who read this board - but it will mean a great deal to the many people who have met Father David and may happen to be Hibs.Net readers.
Edinburgh has lost a great man.
RIP Father David

Very, very sad. Only 54 I believe. A great guy who I had the pleasure of spending time with both in a professional and social capacity. The Catholic church could do with more forward thinking clergy like him.

He officiated at my Uncles funeral last year and was a great source of comfort and support to the family.
RIP Father Gemmell

He was my parish priest at St Kentigerns for a long time. Was a great guy and lots of memories of him. He was a real football man, not just a Celtic man. We all used to got to the pitches at Drumbrae for a game after 6 o' clock mass on a Sunday, not a bad player!
RIP.

I've known Davie for 25 years since he was my chaplain at St Marys and was assisting Mgr Grady at the parish.
An amazing guy, who was always made an effort to have a kind word and a smile for everyone.
I last spoke to him last year when I was back for my parents renewal of marriage vows at the Cathedral, which David celebrated. He will really be missed by many people.
