i simply refuse to give sky money for watching scotland games, just go down the boozer instead, or just listen to the radio(although i spend a lot more than it would for subscribing if i go down the boozer) has there been any mention of what setanta will be charging ? i imagine it will be one-off charges per game ? can't see setanta including the scotland away games included in the £9.99/month fee they have just now :bitchy: infact i'm expecting the fee to go up anyway with them showing live games from the FA cup next season(they only started live FA cup games this season at the begining of this year) :hmmm:

I don't think Setanta will charge any extra to be honest. It certainly won't be pay per view. They seem to add extra events but don't charge anymore (Boxing for example).

call me a sceptic but, i think the boxing has been part of the "sweeteners" :agree: if they dont increase subscriptions for the start of next season i'l be gobsmacked :agree::cool2: it's already a fantastic deal that we are getting at the moment.

Setanta has secured the exclusive broadcast rights to four of England's five away qualifiers - against Croatia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Andorra, but not Ukraine - in wide-ranging deal with the four home nations and Ireland.
It is understood that the rights to England's away fixture against Ukraine are still up for grabs.
The broadcaster will air exclusive live coverage of all Scotland's away qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup, against Holland, Norway, Macedonia and Iceland; as well as Wales' matches against Russia, Finland and Azerbaijan.
Setanta also has Northern Ireland's away ties against Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia; and Ireland's games in Bulgaria, Cyprus and Montenegro.
As part of the rights package, struck with rights holders Sport Five and Kentaro, Setanta will also air another 72 matches from the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.




thats a serious amount of dosh setanta are splashing out :agree: i dont think they are that generous to allow us all that for £9.99 :bitchy: can't see them re-couping all that outlay with just more advertising :dizzy:

They are serving "all of their audiences" .... by showing the ENGLAND matches.

These matches (given England are higher than Scotland in the world rankings) will have been any cheaper to secure than the Scotland games? I don't think so.

Furthermore, I very much doubt "all of their audiencs" would, if asked, rather watch England than watch Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, depending on where they live. However, regardless, and without further questions, "all of their audiences" WILL pay (or be fined) for the privelege.....


This, people, is an absolutely PERFECT example (if less than life threatening, but principally, still important) of how CENTRALISED government (and in this case broadcasting) does NOT serve the needs of ALL the people, in this case, the 5m+ punters up here.

This is no different from the decisions the Westminster Government takes where a "balance" needs struck. That balance, when push comes to shove and decison needs making, will RARELY fall in favour of Scotland.

If we had our own broadcasting corporation that we funded, from our licence fees, we could selfishly show football WE want to see.

If we had our own government, with FULL powers, that we elect, we could selfishly run our country how WE want it run.

The difference is???
