Rare Hibs programme up for auction

Spotted this in a public auction for 16th June lot 386 Great Western Auctions in Glasgow - Hibs v Celtic Coronation Cup 1953 and also Hibs v Newcastle S-F of the Coronation Cup if any one is interested. I have no connection to this at all but may be of interest to a collector although looks expensive?

shows how the balance of football has changed in the UK.

A tournament where the top 4 teams in England played the top 4 teams in Scotland (and everyone took it very seriously) and it ended up with two Scottish teams in the final !

For those who didn't know about the tournament, these were the results:

    Replay[4]

    Semi-finals[edit]

    Final[edit]

I have the whole series of programmes for this tournament along with every Hibs v Hearts fixture and Scotland v England fixture since 1947. I think I should be taking these to an auction now. Add to that all of our European home fixtures since 1947 too. I could be worth a few bob.

Splendid sounding collection although you've got about 8 years worth of home European ties that are truly priceless.

Is that a good auction for old programmes?

I have quite a collection but I'm always thinking I'll get short -changed.

Like any auction. Depends on whose in the room or online wanting to bid. Also don't forget the auction house makes between 10-20% of your sale.

I was in Winchburgh Church hall when they auctioned of George Best top & Liam Hendersons Scottish Cup final boots.
The top went for £600 & the boots went for £4grand. No auctioneers fees as the church were doing the auction themselves.

If 2 or more people really want them that's when the bidding gets interesting.

Several years ago I knocked back an offer of £150 for one signed by Alan Gordon, for some yours would be worth more I feel.

There's one on eBay just now. Doesn't appear to be autographed. 8 days to go and already at £33.

I sold one early 90’s for £140. Have another one that I would never sell.

What dedication! For something like that do you also scan them in as a backup (I’m not asking for copy by the way) Hibstorical archive right there sound anyone can top that?!

I am intrigued by your date of 1947 for European programmes Jim

AFAIK there are only 3 programmes produced for matches v European clubs prior to our European Cup debut in 1955. The earliest one I have is v Rapid Vienna in 1951. I know we played a home game in 1947 v Fram. Are you saying you have a programme for this match ?

What do you reckon it's worth and where is the best place to sell it? Supposing you wanted to, of course.

Best place is definitely eBay. Value is hard to gauge as the programme is not rare but the autograph helps. I would reckon around £20 to £25 tops.

That’s for the Real Madrid one. A bit more for Naples

Yes. I have been reminded this year of how short life is and so I'm just going to sell off all my keepsakes.

Agreed. I always assumed he was, unless he was scouting even more Hibs players☺

He was a great pal of Bob Shankly and was supposed to have recommended him for the Hibs job when he left.

I have not got this programme and did not know this even existed. My first European programme is the European Cup of 1955 and my first Edinburgh Derby is 1 Jan 49. My first England v Scotland programme is 12 April 47. Pride of joy are the 3 Coronation Cup programmes and of course the 0 - 7 one. I hope that this helps.
