I'd be interested to see how Efe played as a defensive midfielder, where he has done for Nigeria.
Although Marv has been playing well I personally think Efe has better distribution. He covers the ground quickly and can compete in the middle. Would allow Hanlon and McGregor to form the partnership at the back again.
Just a thought.

I agree, we are spolied for choice in the centre of defence and only really have Bartley and maybe Whitty as a DM. I would love to see this. Also means when Efe goes on a mazy (and loses the ball) there is still cover at the back.

Daz will be out for a couple of months so can't see this happening anytime soon. Worth trying when Daz is fit.

McGeouch can also play that holding role, albeit in a very different manner from the way Bartley plays

No, I don't think so.
Bartley is as good a defensive midfielder as we'll get. How many times does he get motm? He is a specialist, a true spoiler. You don't drop players like him to accommodate someone else playing out of position.
There are games that don't suit Bartley, and I don't think we need him if we have 3 CHs playing.
Bartley 1st choice. If he can't play and we need a sitting midfielder I'd maybe put Whittaker there. If neither of them could play there I'd consider Lewis Stevenson who has done very well there for us before. Then Paul Hanlon.
Then I might consider Ambrose.

I think it may be a good position for him and would be interested to give him a go there but only if Bartley can't play. Not sure we are spoiled for choice with centre halves with Daz out for weeks and Fonts injured.

Efe is good on the ball and the further away from the goal he is the better when he fancies a dribble.
I think he'd be good in midfield.

If and when McGinn goes, I could see Efe playing alongside Bartley in a 4-2-3-1 which is the system we played on Sat.
