    Five pound notes

    looking at this today: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-39792170

Are there new Scottish fivers as well? I have seen loads of the new ones but no Scottish currency as yet! If not how long can a Scottish fiver be used in the rest of the UK? (and NI who also have their own)

RBS ones have Nan Shepherd on one side and 2 fish on the other

Clydesdale have Sir William Arrol and Forth Rail Bridge

I don't have a BofS one to check

There was a bit on the news yesterday about faulty new one pound coins.......... centre bits falling out etc. They said these were more valuable now than face value. Memo to self ..... 'remember to pick up new drill set from B&Q'.

I've still got a couple of £1 notes. Can you still use them in Scotland?

I've got one of them too in mint condition.

Probably still only worth about £5 though.

I thought you could. I remember them going out of circulation in England, but I don't remember it happening here. I've not seen 1 for years though.

Well that's a different matter but £1 notes are no different to other notes in Scotland in that respect.

My brother in law has a stash of mint condition northern irish george best fivers. I've had no luck suggesting he doesn't need 7 of them and that one should be passed my way.

Banks will take in pretty much any British currency no matter how old. It just can't be circulated.

Try telling that to Sainsbury's, they're refusing any paper fivers.

Funnily enough they took it when I told them to take their petrol back out of my tank or wait until I could return with cash that suited them.

My better half is a manager of a shop and even she thought it was all fivers not just BofE ones.

That option normally works for me when challenged about paying for goods with Scottish notes in England.

    Found this

"A spokesman for the Committee of Scottish Clearing Bankers, which represents Bank of Scotland, Clydesdale Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland, said previously: "The paper Scottish fivers are not being withdrawn from circulation, they are just not being reissued."
