Assume it’s between 500-850k for Maclaren.
A new McLaren comes in just under the 200k mark at £195,250. Not cheap but it would be some car!

To be honest, the team from Scotland should be rubbing their hands thinking they have a real chance because of the entire Faroe Islands record at everything apart from whaling.

I’ll be stunned if we go into the second leg with anything less than a 6 goal advantage
You don’t for a second think we will win by 6, I think we may win at home. But a draw away would be a decent result

You’re right, they might sneak one to make it 6-1

Point still stands about that aswell. We play all season to qualify for Europe, celebrate when we get there and go into it with a significantly weaker team than the one that got us there. It wouldn’t be beyond the realms of possibility that we get beat by this team from the Faroes. Unlikely, probably, but then Hearts and Rangers have probably said the same thing recently.
We have just made Europe for the first time in years through our league position, how we do in Europe this season is irrelevant if we dont finish at least 4th next season to qualify again.

We need to be in Europe regularly before we put in a real challenge there, our domestic campaign must come first, and building a side that competes at the top end regularly, will help in future years when we compete in Europe.

Signing any old sheite rather than our targets is a sure way to not qualifying and slipping down the league like the gimps over the other side of town.

Theyve played Fulham , Rosenborg and dinamo Tblisi in recent seasons .. none of them managed to put 6 past them infact fulham only won 3-0 on aggregate .. People on here are mental if they think were going to rock up for our 1st game and win by a cricket score .

I don’t watch cricket. Can you get 6-0 in cricket?

Why would Dylan want to go too Sunderland for? Mess of a club, Big mistake going there. Stay in the top division with Hibs and play every week and improve yourself, your big pay day will come. Silly Laddie if he go's there.

Within our reach, but how much of the budget would it take up?

I am all for trying to get him back, but don't think he's worth breaking the bank for, though I would be more worried about Maclaren's wage demands and how much of a cut he would take as imagine he's currently on quite a bit more than we would be willing to pay

Just read on twitter (celtic home and away) that Scott alan is staying at celtic as hibs not selling john mcginn to them.
Probably a lot of rubbish,we'll have to wait and see.

Also just uploaded a pic of himself from the pre season tour with Celtic, not that it proves anything

Sunderland were a mess, but they're rebuilding in a lower division from scratch, a bit like we did with Stubbs.

McGeouch's move to Hibs worked out very well for him. He might fancy that the same will happen for him at Sunderland?

Just part of the game if anyone thought Celtic were going to be easy to deal with with regard to Allan or McGinn then they had another thing coming.

Thanks for all the numerous posts about Europa ties etc, very interesting they may be but seeing as this is a transfer thread, has anyone got any news to share on that?

I'd say around 99% of stuff on Twitter is rubbish so you're probably correct

I think we’ll sign Allan but it won’t be till much later in the window. There’s no chance he stays at Celtc IMO.

There's no chance we'll pay anything like £500k+ for MacLaren & TBH I wouldn't want us to do that. We'll be looking at imaginative ways to attract players, lump sums, bonuses etc & if we splash out that amount on one player it reduces our chances of signing the likes of Scott Allan, Mallan etc. If MacLaren returns I expect it to be on loan again.

Agreed. At most I reckon we could pay a small fee and agree a selling on fee for the German club. No way I'd be splashing anywhere near half a million on him.

When was the last time we paid a fee of any substance for a player
If Lennon thinks we can develop him further and there is money to be made from selling him on further down the line then we have to be prepared to fork out a Transfer Fee
But don't see us paying more than £200,000 Would expect we would rather give them a percentage of any subsequent Transfer Fee and pay a nominal amount up front

Proven strikers don't come cheap. The money we spend on Maclaren might be "spent" anyway by way of a lower league position or earlier exit from the cups/Europe.

My inclination (based on nothing other than my own thoughts) is that we'll see another three signings along the same lines as Kamberi - low six figure fee paid, and wages at the top end of our scale.

Our biggest targets - Allan, Mallan and McLaren - are all contracted to other clubs, and would necessitate a fee. Maybe a couple of free transfers to backup some other positions.

All should be achievable with the budget.

The "paying of fees" changes the dynamic of these contracts and transfers though.

I can't see us paying a fairly decent fee then giving the player a 2 year contract (like we do with most of our free transfers).

They'd need to be given at least 3 years, if not 4, for the outlay to be worthwhile. If that player gets a bad injury or turns out to be a dud, that can be a long and expensive contract to have a player on.

The likes of Kamberi, Mallan and McLaren would have a potential sell-on value though (poss less so Allan).
