I'd agree with Van der Valk & Cheers.

Honourable mention for Hill Street Blues though.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, vodka in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Is that 'Taxi' for the previous poster or a vote for the 'Taxi' theme tune?

The BBC sports themes, even the ITV ones probably merit their own thread.

Grandstand, World of Sport, the snooker, Formula One, the cricket, all classics

I used to love the theme from the south bank show, but then I’d turn it off because the show was ****.

    United we stand here....

The holy triumvirate of Minder, The Sweeney and The Professionals: all instantly recognisable and equally iconic.
(And no, I’ve no just plucked a section from the current ITV4 listings...)

Tinker Tailor had a good theme. Atmospheric.

I liked the Cheers song. It was a great show back in the day.

Good shout on all three but The Sweeney deserves special plaudits because they took the same tune and made it upbeat for the opening theme and then all melancholic for the closing theme.

Benny Hill, (Yackety Sax) can't remember if it was the theme tune or not but always played the show out at the end.
