Went to see Silence last night and really struggled with it. Had no idea what it was about before I went but had seen a couple of trailers and thought that might be worth a watch. But it turned out to be one of these films that you just think it's going to get better just hang in there, but unfortunately for me it didn't. Had a similar experience with The Revenant couldn't wait to get out of the cinema and didn't really see what all the hype was about.
What are the films you regret paying the admission fee.

The Revenant.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, vodka in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Maybe not in the exact same vein but 'Sunshine' by Danny Boyle. I think the first hour of that film is the most astounding piece of film making I have ever seen, then it descends into a complete shambles, left the cinema both amazed and gutted at the same time.

Blair Witch Project, closest I have come to walking out a cinema while the film is ongoing.

But I agree. Starts off well and ends up as a slasher film.
Recent disappointments include Sully and Rouge One.

"What Dreams May Come" starring Robin Williams was by far the worst movie I have ever seen in my life - and I've seen a few honkers.

Also throwing in that Fantastic Beasts film as one that left me wishing I hadn't made an effort to see it in the cinema.

I should say I thought visually it was amazing and well worthy of its Oscar for cinematography and Leo was overdue his Oscar but the storyline was dull IMO and could have been told in half the time.
Spotlight was the far better film and the Academy agreed with me but that's another discussion.Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, vodka in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Spotlight wasn't better. It couldn't decide if it was a film showing the heroics of the spotlight team, against what I assume was great threat / adversity although that wasn't especially well sold, or if it was an exposing of the already well covered ground of abuse within the church. In the end it was straddled between the two and the film was poorer for it.

In the sense I think the OP means, I found Birdman a bit erm, difficult and up its own erse.
In the sense of a hard, but worthwhile - if not required - watch, Shoah, by far is indeed hard going. But highly recommended.

The Road.
Bleakest film I've ever seen. I could never watch it again.
The Doppelganger might give it a run for its money, mind you.Last edited by Hibbyradge; 09-01-2017 at 10:38 PM.

Bad Lieutenant. I don't think there's another film where the "hero" is such a s**mbag. Harvey Keitel is superb in it, but I've rarely felt so uncomfortable watching a film that in fact I couldn't stop watching.
