    Rangers on 21st May 2016

I know nobody here likes talking about that day , but I just had a conversation about that day with a couple of guys at work. During the chat one of them had suggested we didn't play any top teams on the way to winning the cup. They other guy suggested that they were all top flight teams except Raith. I had said that rangers weren't, but he argued that they had already been promoted by the time the game was played. I couldn't decide if he was right.

So is he right? Were they technically a top flight team when we played them? Or is there a specific day when the promoted and relegated teams actually move?

I'm sure it's on record as being a final consisting of two teams from the second tier. Anyone confirm?

Two teams from the championship - that Rangers won the league and were promoted doesn’t really change that fact. Think it might have been the first time the cup final was contested between two lower league clubs?

It was certainly reported as that at the time. Hibs also the only team ever to reach both cup finals in the same season while in the 2nd tier.

First time on record for two teams from the Championship competing in the final of Scotland’s premier Cup competition
Unfortunately for The Rangers they met two top clubs in the Scottish Cup that season Celtic and Hibernian Football Club
Still without a Scottish Cup win since their formation in 2012
They let their club die but refuse to admit it

All I know is that Andy Halliday had it under control and that was my cue to turn off the telly.

I remember we were 2-0 down to a big team from the top league. Didn't we get back level and get a money-spinning replay?

They still had the second biggest budget in the country, by a mile. And we still pumped them 😁

From my daily German media sources I believe you did, in fact, watch the rest of the game.

I think it was German...French maybe?

Never mind being 2-1 up in the final and getting beat, never mind losing to a 92+ minute winner, never mind your former Player's Player of the Year being on the winning side, never mind Stoksie being on fire but imagine being THAT team who lost to Hibs...the team who hadn't won the cup since 1902.....

Strangely enough I had the distinct feeling that they beat Celtic in the cup making it much easier for us to win it.
