There's a poll for Monty, a poll for Kensell so I thought it only fair we have one for McDermott.

Are we seriously looking at a a wrecking ball scenario as a tool, with manager, Kenesll and McDermott all go?
Just how massively disruptive to the whole club would that be?
If we’re talking about changing culture at the club - as bigger Nick and Brian have, it is no quick fix unfortunately…
the reality is there was and is a lag between recruitment and impact as time to gel doesn’t always clck.
The big gaping hole was addressing the defence and serious questions need to be asked at this repeated failure that Jack pointed out.
away to draw the curtains and switch the lights off as I lay down in a darkened room til the end of hiberian-ation.Last edited by Viva_Palmeiras; 16-04-2024 at 05:56 AM.

Wonder how the chef is performing? Was their target top 6 in the chef league or just accepting mediocrity

Ten years ago, under Petrie, there was a serious attempt to fundamentally change the culture at the club. In 2007 John Collins had railed against it by resigning and fellow former players Mixu and Yogi both struggled with the bland 'Corporate' philosophy employed by the former banker in reporting to Sir Tom Farmer.
Don't get me wrong. The club was very well run from an infrastructure perspective with stadium and commercial developments. However from a football perspective our posh and nicey suit and tie approach has perennially failed to show the required amount of grit and guts on the field of play. Apart from May 2016, our club has been 'Hibs'ing' it since 2012.
It took relegation for Rod to hand over the reins. Hibs supporter groups had demanded the recruitment of a CEO and Director of Football with Leeann Dempster as our number one target. Up until the change of ownership we saw a more home grown team on the park and clear evidence of a squad-building strategy. Since Dempster, Craig and Mathie left, we have been reduced to a shambles again in the football department.
The recruitment of Brian McDermott to run the football side of Hibernian FC was trumpeted by Ron, Ian and Ben as a solution. Ben and Ian would improve the club off the park (which in my book they get pass marks for) whilst Brian, with his experience, would bring in a structure to improve the football operation.
He's only been in the job for 11 months so I seriously hope that he's not going to 'Do a Warnock' and walk away from the challenge. Personally I would like to think the Hibs support deserve some insight into Brian's plans for the squad. He is Nick's boss after all.
Communication with the fans is vital at any time and an absolute necessity when we are trying to shift season ticket books. Accepting the request for the Longbangers interview would be a start.
I have a lot of time for Mikey Stewart who has been telling us all season as he reiterated at the weekend:-
"The biggest problems for Hibs are behind the scenes. If you allow those people to sack another manager and get someone else in, you're not dealing with the biggest issue. It's been a problem since Leeann Dempster and Jack Ross left. They are repeating the same mistakes over and over again.”Last edited by RIP; 16-04-2024 at 08:09 AM.

Seems to spend more time on Linkedin than doing anything to progress Hibs on the park. He can go with that slaver of a manager we have.

If the rumour is true that he's leaving this summer, and always was going to be leaving, then it has been a total waste of everyones time.
Director of Football roles should be centred on longevity and longer term planning around the football department so there's a constant thread of ideas woven into the decisions we make over a 3 to 5 year period. 12 months is a total waste of money, time, and effort. We've effectively just gotten another voice at the recruitment table that has no skin in if it worked beyond this season.
Can't help feel like we've been done a kipper here by getting in Lee Johnson's dads pal last summer to complete the circus.Last edited by Centre Hawf; 16-04-2024 at 09:54 AM. Reason: grammar

Brian McDermott has given interviews explaining his ‘philosophy’. He did an extensive one on the club’s own channel.
The issue isn’t clarity. The issue is that his plan hasn’t worked.
He was respected but seen as old school when managing Reading. I just don’t know if he’s adapted enough as DoF.

That’s not even necessarily a personal thing against BMc. Like you said though, if we’ve appointed a DOF, and it wouldn’t have mattered who it was, to stay at the club for a season then it has been an utter waste of time and money bothering to do so.

Obita looks like the one he's had a hand in. Fair enough, he's probably been our POTY really.
As you say this isn't a personal attack on Brian, but I really at this point have no idea what he's contributed to us in 12 months to justify saying 'job done' at the end of the season other than signing a fairly decent left back.

The only positive to all these pointless poll threads is it gives us a break from the usual tedious puns.

Although he’d need a hand with recruitment.

Leeann appointed George Craig as DOF in 2014 to make sure that the club had a competent person running all aspects of the football operation. We moaned for years that Petrie as CEO was ill qualified to do that.
We can hardly complain when a CEO who is doing an excellent job in improving investment and infrastructure acknowledges the need for a football specialist.
