How fitting that our season was ended by a last minute goal

Priority one for the new manager should be a complete replacement of our ****ty defence.

Absolutely sums the season up perfectly. 20 seconds of injury time left, 20 bloody seconds away from the top 6 being secured. Brutal.

Said about 10 weeks ago we'd miss out by 1 goal, surprised it wasn't shaw, halliday or Spittal that scored it , scunnered with them now absolut bottlers renewed but will not be back this season looking more forward to the hibs first night at the stadium ask some right good question

Interested to know how many points we've lost in injury time? Double figures surely?

  6. #5
Also fitting that it came from a long throw, considering we do it every week and it ends up coming to nothing every time.

In my view our prospects for the season ended at the January window when we spectacularly failed to address the glaring deficiencies in defence. There's no excuse for that given it was obvious to all of us. This is probably the poorest defence I've seen us have in years. Heads need to roll as it has cost us big time.

That comes down to mentality for me. We don’t have a team who are prepared to dig in and do whatever it takes to get across the line.

The Ross County one was the worst for me. The game should have been finished half an hour before it and we should have had the throw in but that totally overshadowed how bad a goal it was to lose. Murray getting a cross in when he shouldn’t have, Youan not tracking back and the finish just trundling past our goalie and about 3 defenders.

You can add leads throwing away leads as well.

Impressive getting these stats together in only 4 minutes. Not wanting to be flippant after today, but bravo Sir!

I’ll get shot for bringing this up on this thread….. but Lennon would instil the mentality to dig in and do whatever.

So this on X - After 75 mins

Motherwell 94min - our win into a Draw
    St.Johnstone 81st min was a draw then a loss.
Ross County 98th min - winning then a Draw
Celtic 92nd min - drawing into a loss
Hearts 93rd mins - draw into a loss
    St.Mirren 92nd min Winning then = Draw
    Aberdeen 78th min - 10v 11 players = draw into loss - Cup Game
Ross County 82 min goal - after winning = Draw
Kilmarnock 79th min goal when winning = Draw

The defence is definitely an issue, but the failure to hold a lead through injury time falls on the whole team. It's when a trailing team will attack us most and we need to be able to frustrate, cajole, slow down, run down the clock and put a game to bed by any means necessary.

That's obviosuly on the defence, but it's also on every other player and on the manager and his team to use tactics and instill them in their team.

For me, continuing to lose last minute goals goes beyond simply having a poor defence. Even bog standard defenders understand the fundamental basics of running down the clock when hanging on to a result. It's as if our players are actively instructed not to waste time when we're a goal up with several minutes left. We've seen this repeatedly throughout the season when we've unnecessarily attempted to push forward for another goal and given the ball away extremely cheaply instead of seeing the game out. That's not down to bad players, that's down to players being instructed to do something that they shouldn't.

Football really is a cruel game at times. The season is a right off and really need to be rid of the deadwood and spend this six million investment wisely. A few more decent loan players from maybe Lorient. Really need to add a bit of swagger to the team.

I have no evidence to back it up as I’ve not looked into it, but I’ve felt it’s not just the last few minutes of games. It’s been the last few minutes of the 1st half of games as well. Can think of a few times against Rangers in particular we have either conceded on the stroke of halftime or slightly earlier where we should have just been looking at slowing the clock till half time. Nobody wants a bunch of time wasting jobbers playing for us, but the naivety we have shown this season has been ridiculous at times.

That isn't just luck - that is absolutely an issue of mentality. I've been behind Monty but I think we need to someone new.

Although our whole football strategy should be re-examined. We are going backwards and we'll waste £6m quite easily if don't sort ourselves out.

Agreed. Our answer to our well documented defensive issues was Triantis and Bevan. Bevan was signed, given the old youtube arrival interview then sent back 2 weeks later. He was 20 yo.

If anything sums up out recruitment policy over the last 4 years its this fiasco. Ridiculous state of recruitment, planning and execution. Amateur stuff.

Don’t forget Amos too - about 90 mins of football in the last 4 months.

Plus Mayenda too - another 18 year old who played around 90 minutes since coming to Hibs.

Add in Bevan too and that’s 3 total waste of wages - resources - squad members.

3 new signings started yesterday but none are defenders where our issue has been losing cheap goals all season.

Cut our losses with Magennis in the summer because he was always injured and bring in Amos in January. A permanently injured midfielder. People at the club really don't have a clue. It's like they don't learn. It's borderline laughable how many poor decisions there have been on the football side under this regime.

In the last couple of months we have had 5 games we have failed to win despite dominating.
Hearts, Aberdeen, Ross County, St Johnstone and yesterday all fit that description.
If we had won even just a couple of games we would be sitting comfortably in the top half and looking forward to a big finish to the season.
Instead we are yet again in absolute turmoil with 5 dead rubbers to "look forward" to.
    It simply isn't good enough.

Anyone who knows anything about football knew that not getting a proper centre half in January was likely to cost us. It was total negligence from those involved.

Signing a young inexperienced player in Triantis and a young player from Bournemouth who had been injured, and ended up injured again, was a joke.

Chuck Mayenda in and that’s three young players you’ve signed in January for very little contribution. Add Amos in who has predictably ended up hardly playing. Pissing about with stuff like that when all we needed to do was get someone who could organise a bit and header the ball out the box more often than not. If we had, I’m convinced we’d be better off. It didn’t need to be anyone glamorous, it just needed to be someone capable of doing a job in the short term at this level. But that wouldn’t suit our snobby approach to signing players.

And we were leading in 4 of them (twice in injury time).

There’s been too many excuses when we’ve dropped points (granted we have suffered from some terrible decisions) rather than addressing our complete inability to defend. You think of some of the goals lost in those games and it’s no surprise we are where we are.

Obita and cadden/Miller aren't really the issue for me, a new keeper and two or three good CHs are what we need, so weak in that area and have been for a wee while

Also ironic Ollie should have scored after we conceded. Would have been the funniest thing ever in an unfunny way if we push Rocky up then lose a winning goal only for Aberdeen then to score meaning a point may have been enough. Sheep game was about 5 minutes behind ours which seemed a little odd.

It’s only one example, but I pointed out on the match thread the Motherwell defender, Cresswell?, back post header. He was 60/40 against winning it but his desire and determination to win the header stopped a goal. Compare that to the amount of headers we lose and cheap goals we concede.
