    Sick as a Fish...

So Fish wasn't well and this was the reason for him being subbed? He certainly was off colour football wise first half.

If he was ill beforehand then NM should have either played Hanlon, if he wanted Triantis in CM, or started NMW.

Really hope he didn't gamble in such an important game.

    Exactly!

I said this would be the reason given when subbed off. It's all bollocks. By the look of it more than half the team were 'sick' today then.

Our only decent centre half is Paul Hanlon.

Both Rocky and Triantis were piss poor for their first goal.

Played like a flounder….whole team are similar to Fenton’s mob…..how the puck newell is a top earner defies belief!!!….70% off that team needs emptied…..along with management, whoever scouts managers , and whoever’s in charge of youth development…..lot of money ploughed into training facilities and youth development…..can’t remember the last time we produced decent talent that consistently plays in the first team….monty outwitted by levein…..

Hardly. He's never been good enough so he's certainly not now.

I always thought you could rely on PH at ER in a game like today to be fairly dominant and have the better of his opposite number not giving much away. Not let the ball bounce.

With our current centre half pairings the number of times the forward wins possession from a hopeful punt on the spin is way more than it has been in recent years. Massive upgrade needed.

Jeezus.Seen a load of crap on this site but to suggest Hanlon has never been good enough is right up there.

It’s an old argument that we don’t really need to go over again but has our defending got better, stayed the same or worsened since Hanlon was dropped?

    I’d say it’s got worse.

Hanlon has regularly struggled against physical forwards like Sidibe in the past.

I’m no huge Hanlon fan but both those goals would not have happened with him in centre of the goal.

Triantis again at fault as CH.

Tried to play offside and then was pulling a caravan trying to recover. I urge anyway (if they can) to watch the view from behind the goal of their 2nd:

Triantis is on 6 yard box, centre of goal marking no one. Constantly looking about unsure. Then when ball comes in, he runs under it, misses the header to leave the attacker to mi**** a volley on our 6 yard line from a corner.

A disaster made in Central Coast Mariners that - from coaching staff to misplaced confidence in a poor player (who has some nice passing attributes)

I’d say there’s been no difference all season whoever our centre back pairing is.

Like every other defender in the league. It’s a sin that he wasn’t allowed to leave in Jan.

What a load of guff. Hanlon at his peak was excellent, got his Scotland cap, and still is a very decent Scottish Premiership centre half.

Triantis has cost us several goals now whenever he’s played back there. Rocky and Fish aren’t any better. God help us if his answer for next season is Fish on a permanent deal.

Not in any way sticking up for our defenders but it can't help playing in front of a keeper who never leaves his line and hardly ever saves anything.

If Fish was ill, then it's yet another criminal decision from NM to play him when he has Hanlon in reserve.

Mind you, an even worse decision was putting Triantis at CB were he is a total liability.

Yeah I'd get rid of fish. Had a great loan spell but he's been awful for most of this season.

He's needing dropped, but we don't have anyone else to step in.

Fish just hasn’t developed like we hoped he would.

People don't remember how badly that SC winning side slumped when he was injured, along with Fyvie, another very underrated player.

Hanlon was brilliant at his best.

    Our defenders are criminally inconsistent.

None of them have been good enough and I don’t think any of them can honestly have any argument if they are dropped or ultimately replaced in the summer.
