    Relaxing Music

Currently on the train from Manchester and listening to the James - Be Opened By The Wonderful which is their orchestral album. I'll no doubt drift off to sleep at some point but it's a cracking album.

What's your favourite easy listening album for such journeys?

First one that comes to mind is Twelvefour by an Aussie band called The Paper Kites. Dreamy melodic folk-ish pop.

I did a course a few years ago down in London that involved 12 journeys down by train over the course of a year, and "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd was the soundtrack to that journey.

It was in many ways a tricky time in my life / career and far from a bed of roses but the soundtrack to that sort of escape that I managed to get every so often takes me to a happy place.

Ive weirdly turned to listening to some very haunting Gregorian chanting from monks of the abbey, it completely chills me in more ways than one 🫣

John Metcalfe, from his 2023 album Tree, this is the first track, Xylem. Metcalfe is a producer and arranger, one time member of The Durutti Column, worked with Blur, Coldplay and U2, most recently doing the orchestral arrangements on Peter Gabriel's I/o album. This album, Tree, is 57 minutes of heaven.

Peter Gabriel from his 2023 album I/o. This song deals with ageing, and is a beautiful take on life. Love it.

Steven Wilson, title track from his 2023 solo album The Harmony Codex. Made his name with Porcupine Tree, his solo albums are an amazing source of enjoyment. Recommend this one, The Harmony Codex, and Hand Cannot Erase from 2015. Sold out three nights at the Royal Albert Hall in 2018, recorded and released as Home Invasion.

Tricky - Maxinquaye. My go to album when I just want to zone out.

Tangerine Dream - Phaedra. 50 years old, this was TD's first album on the new Virgin label.

Any chance of posting the name of the band and the album, and maybe something about it, rather than just the YouTube link?

    Please.

The Beatles’ white album has been my go-to album when I’m tired or hungover for years. I always find it soothes my brain.

Sounds mental and not music but I have to fight sleep every time I'm sat in the barbers chair. Obviously I'm not the only one because you can download tracks from Spotify with the sound of clippers, sends me into a deep sleep within seconds.

Sigur Ros's debut Aegaetis Byrjun. I like most of their other stuff, but it's still the best.

Haven't heard of a lot of the stuff folk have mentioned especially the Gregorian chanting from monks of the
abbey🤔😂. So finding it an interesting thread . Old time class I've always find relaxing here.

I fell asleep at the dentists when getting a root canal.
I was mortified. The dentist said it is quite common.

When I'm on a train journey, I usually go for something like Norah Jones' "Come Away with Me" or maybe some Jack Johnson vibes.

Yep, I'm the same. Total ASMR. I listen to that sort of ASMR video on YouTube to get to sleep. I also did that jolting thing when you realise you are closing your eyes and falling asleep whilst sitting when I was getting an eye test done a number of years ago. I think it was a combination of following the light the optician was telling me to follow (the light from the TV puts me to sleep too) and the optician having a really relaxing/soothing Irish accent too. I was mortified.

Anyway, on the topic of the thread: Give Up by The Postal Service.
