Smile Northern Soul at the Proms!

Bit of respite from our miserable league campaign on BBC2 tonight at 7:45 (also available on BBC Sounds).

Nearly two hours of some legendary Northern sides including the classic "Three before Eight" played at the end of the all-nighters at Wigan Casino.

Apart from the aforementioned Tobi Legend, Jimmy Radcliffe and Dean Parrish tracks, there are great covers of some absolute gems by Yvonne Baker, Sandy Sheldon, Dobie Gray and the MVPs. And some fine support by the BBC Concert Orchestra when required - "Sliced Tomatoes" by the Just Brothers given due respect.

So, lift the carpet and get your sprung wooden floor on show. Break out the talcum powder and the Ben Sherman shirt or Gabicci polo and enjoy
There's only one thing better than a Hibs calendar and that's two Hibs calendars

That was superb, singers all great. Not a bad record played. 👏🏻

Was great telly and a brilliant idea. Not sure that Andi Oliver added anything at all as the presenter. Given that it was Stuart Maconnie's project, it should have been anchored by him.

Way better than I thought it would be. Sometimes "adding" an orchestra takes away from the source material but that was great. Mainly down to the rhythm section imo, very tight, very brisk.
