    Jake Doyle Hayes

Really got a feeling that he’s going to have a good season. Started really well last year and faded but it looks like LJ is playing him to his strengths and in a more attack minded sense. In the games so far he’s been brilliant at winning the ball back and immediately looked to do something positive with it.

I think this season we’ll see a few players who had been close to written off surprise us and just now I think he’s odds on favourite to do that.

Also think LJs “He’s a real poacher, isn’t he?” comment post Clyde makes me think that Doidge has given the manager a dilemma up front too and has shown something he maybe hadn’t seen of him before.

He's looked much much better in the few games he's played under LJ. Really hoping he can keep the form up when we start playing a higher standard of opponent. I have faith that he will.

Could be a right old battle to start in our midfield this season. Good signs.

I was really excited by JDH as he started last season how I want Hibs to play. Was running to get ball back in play, restart game quicker and generally had a buzz about him. That seemed to fade as his fitness/confidence took a knock and he seemed to settle into the same pattern as those around him.

When I heard LJ talk about getting ball back in play quickly I thought he might flourish under him? Hope so, be good to work with what we have and I think he might develop, still young as well.

Anyone would have found it difficult to improve in a team riddled with injuries, Covid, fixture congestion and a manager painfully out of his depth. I've said it about others too but clean slate for me. Positive start to this season.

I know it’s only highlights and ‘only Clyde’ etc etc but those YouTube highlights for me made both him and Campbell look like different players. Positive signs and long may it continue.

    You are kidding yourself.
Contributed nothing last season and his performances in the two Hearts games at the end of the season were awful.
We are so keen to draw a line over last season.
If we're relying on JDH we are in trouble.

Nonsense. Good player who will thrive this season.

You can draw a line, admit players were poor but also accept that there will be improvements. JDH has talent.

It's the truth and as the last poster stated all we can do is wait and see.
He is a St Mirren standard player and not good enough if we are to challenge the likes of Hearts and Aberdeen.
I'm mystified what people saw in him last season.

JDH is a class act and he'll go to prove it this season.

    What a ridiculous statement.
I form an opinion on players in games v Hearts and other big games.

Genuine question, based on what is he a class act?

Okay you don’t like him, we get it. You said further up the thread all we can do is wait and see, and I’m sure you’ll agree it’ll be nice if you turn out to be wrong and he has a good season with us.

    Absolutely.
Nothing would give me greater pleasure if he rammed my words down my throat.

I’ll be over the moon if he is a class act. I’ll be delighted to be proved wrong.

Mines is a genuine question tho. What are people basing him as a class act/amazing player?

I’ll let someone else answer as I haven’t used those terms (here or in real life) to describe him - I’m yet to be convinced he’s a “class act” but I have faith there’s far more football in the lad than what we’ve seen so far. I think we could pick on almost anyone for underperforming in our team last season, and do think JDH has something to offer yet.

Like I said earlier in the thread, the snippets I’ve seen from him this summer makes him look a different player. But agree we’ll have to wait and see.

He was very good in the Easter Road derby in January.

From how different a role he’s played so far under LJ and how well he’s adapting to it. Twice now he’s supplied an assist by pressing high up the pitch, winning possession back and feeding it with a nice pass forwards.

Much more positive and attack minded.

He was absolutely brilliant in the semi-final v Rangers too.

Let’s also remember that he played the majority of last season as a defensive holding midfielder under 2 ultra-pragmatic managers which isn’t his best position. He’ll have a a lot more license under LJ to get forward and influence the game higher up the pitch as we saw on Saturday and during pre-season.

    It’s an OPINION man.

You are entitled to it, but don’t be making claims for your own comments that can’t be backed up.

My view is that both managers last season had the players restricted by their system and it didn’t go well. LJ seems to be encouraging them to express themselves more - there are risks in this approach too but also opportunities.

As others have said, let’s give the entire squad a fresh start. JDH might surprise us.

JDH has a good engine and not afraid to stick the boot in

Still young, his raw talent, enthusiasm and natural aggression just needs to be channelled in the right direction

Booked 12 times in 44 appearances last season

Prefer him further forward was outstanding versus Ross County and the Hun

Big season for JDH and HIBS

That booking stat is so unlikely i actually had to check it. You are of course right but it still shocked me.
