Eric Morecombe's team, which is good enough.
What a rollercoaster they have experienced in the past couple of decades. When I was a kid they were old First Division and a very good side, with the likes of the Stein brothers, Ricky Hill, Steve Foster, Ashley Grimes, Danny Wilson. I remember them winning the League Cup; they played on a plastic pitch and had a policy of no away fans at games, due to hooliganism.
They had a financial collapse and fell through the divisions, ending up non-league and almost going out of business. In the past few years they've gone the other way and now look certain to be in the Championship play-offs. What a fairy tale, should they get back to the EPL. I'd like to see them do it and complete the comeback.

Derby County relegated today after a brave fight
Points deduction caught up with them
I remember Mickey Weir signing for Luton Town then coming back home

The 30 point deduction in 2008 by the FA ensured their demotion to non league football but they made sure the picked up the Football League trophy in 2009 beating Scunthorpe in the final, ironically, the Irons are sure to be relegated from the football league this season.
It’s all looking bright down Kenilworth Road these days and if they do go up there will be yet more irony as it looks like Watford will be relegated to the championship.
A move to their new stadium Power Court in the centre of Luton is not too far off either.
It’s a good time to be a Hatter, Nathan Jones has done wonders.

Luton Town
Never been an admirer of Luton, they had a millionaire Tory egomaniac Mercer type (David Evans) in charge in the 80s who treated most fitba fans like **** and a commodity…

Should add.. that’s a personal opinion… in football terms they’ve done well in recent years and, although he’s moved on now, James Collins did what he couldn’t do for us and banged in a load of goals during their rise.

I didn't know they are building a new stadium, thought Kenilworth Road is a dump and needs replacing.HIBERNIAN FC - ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY SINCE 1875

When I lived in Stevenage, late 60s early 70s use to take in Luton's home games, enjoyed it.

I also went to a few Norwich games around the same time as the college ran a bus to Carrow Road regularly, but Luton with the Stein brothers, Steve Foster and Ricky Hill became my English team.
Many Luton fans are Asians from the town, little Tommy Twonames is a sick joke to most Hatters.

Brought up in Luton and followed them in the halcyon days of early 80s to mid 90s.
Founding member of the premier league, but relegated the season before it started.
Would love to see them promoted. They could take the ŁŁŁ and pay for the stadium.
David Evans and the terrible plastic pitch weren't universally popular. There was some sympathy for the away fan ban after the carnage of millwall. Thrown out of the league cup because of it.
One theory was the luton hooligan gang (migs) were a reason why away fans were banned.

Luton have done great just to get to the play-off stage
would be interesting if Millwall scraped into the play-offs

I don't pay much attention to the English Championship but did have a double take when I looked at the league tables in the Sunday paper. Remember watching their 1988 League Cup triumph against a very good Arsenal team and of-course there is the Mickey Weir connection. Their fans had a certain reputation back in the day to the point where I believe their fans were barred entry to away games. If they could make it to the promised land it would be a remarkable achievement. Given the glossy, corporate image of the "best league in the world" I think they would be an interesting addition to the prawn sandwich brigade. Hope they do it!!

On the one time I went to Luton the ticket office sold me a seat which didn't exist.
To be fair, when I went back to the office and complained they found me a real one.

Can't ever forget David Pleat's skip and jump celebration when Luton won away at Man City in the early 80's to stay in the First Division.

A wee shout out to Oldham Athletic, who look to be heading the other way. In the EPL with Joe Royle, it looks very likely they will drop out of the Football League this season.
