I will have £500 bet with you, to any charity you want to mention that we will not getb relegated and be nowhere near a relegation spot.

Its highly unlikely we will get relegated but its not beyond the realms of possibility on current form. There are worse teams than us though.

Why wouldn’t we? Why just choose the last 3 games?
that’s as current as form gets. We even played the champions and we’re unlucky not to get something out that game too.

So you dont actually believe what you posted?
(We won’t finish mid-table if the current league form continues.)

Ah sorry, didn’t realise it went straight from mid-table to relegation, my mistake

So it's a myth that winning a cup and finishing middle of the table would be acceptable then.
I'm shocked to my core that we are now in a position that the exact circumstances talked about last season might happen

    And its not good enough

We won't be relegated. However, in such a poor league our form should be better and it must improve. Staying up isn't the aim; being competitive is.

Given our dreadful league form a cup final win would only paper over cracks. Theres 3 games before the final, time to get some form but I just can't see it happening.
A cup win would "paper over the cracks". This is Hibernian not ****ing Barcelona.

Why not just the last 1 or 2 then? That’s pretty current. Or even 4? You’ve only chosen 3 because it suits your argument

Win the cup, finish 10th and I’d be delighted.

I’ve been looking for positive omens…

when we beat them in the 72 league cup final we had finished third the previous season and suffered a desperately disappointing scottish cup final defeat. We had also suffered a narrow and unlucky home defeat to the huns a couple of weeks before the Celtic final (which was shortly before Christmas).

Yep, I can’t see any way we’re not winning this cup on the 19th. And I would take any type of victory.
Can I just say, I was there, all of it

We're having this cup.just lulling celtc into a false sense of security.

I don’t think we will be in a relegation fight either however we need a big turnaround in form and I’m not sure when or how that happens based on what I’ve watched lately. We will do enough to win a few games here and there, maybe even the cup final!!

It’s current we are talking about right? It doesn’t get any more current that that. It’s the cup final thread we are on. I can’t be arsed but it might make interesting reading the whole form of Ross’ tenure. Can we go that far back? He’s still plenty in the bank for me. Another run of defeats and I might change my mind but right now (currently) I’m absolutely fine with performances. Can’t wait to be a Livi on Wednesday night to be honest.

It’s “current” to you because it suits the point you’re trying to make. As I asked, why not 2 or 4? Because that changes the narrative

I will be at Livi as well but can’t say I’m looking forward to it

I was born in 1974 and couldn't tell you anything about our league form in 1972, what I have known from childhood is that we beat Celtic to win the League Cup. No one wants a bad league campaign (obviously), win that tin pot though and its written in the history books forever, future generations won't care a jot about the rest.

I want us to beat them with the same devastating display we beat Der Hun.

Oh and I want it to be snowing, like our cup win in 2007.

We can celebrate our glorious cup win by singing Jingle Bell Rock.

Hypothetical anyway, from what I’ve just seen of Celtic, I can’t see us fluking any kind of cup win unless we have a massive upturn in the way we’re playing.

Anything can happen on the day, but it will be tough. Worse Hibs teams have beaten better Celtic ones.

That’s true aye. SC final of 2013 is coming to mind for me, albeit we’re better now and Celtic aren’t as good.

We’re all heading along the m8 in hope!

To be honest I was feeling like that for the Rangers semi and ended up having my best Hibs day since the Scottish Cup win. Amazing day all round. When you're not expecting anything you can relax and enjoy the day more I think.

What a bonkers thread! The OP is asking "Would anyone take a lucky boring win in that cup final v Celtic?".

Anyone who adds in any caveats in not a Hibernian FC supporter. FFS, how many cup finals have we won since 1875. I couldn't give one jot how we win it, as long as we win it. This place is getting more and more bizarre by each passing day.

I’ll take a penalty shutout win.

The last time a league cup final was played in December was the 1972/73 season 😉😁
